Re: Dietary cholesterol promotes repair of demyelinated lesions in the adult brain

Hi Katie. Sorry I didn't see your note until now. I have CVD and dementia in the family. But interestingly, the CVD and dementia patients in our family are totally different. So I can't say if anyone has had cognitive benefits from statins. Like you, I'm opting for a reduced dose. (The full dose gav...

Re: New here and a bit overwhelmed.

My thought re: rosuvastatin was to prevent cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver but not in the brain. Overly simplistic, I'm sure. And I know there are data favoring some of the others that penetrate the brain better. What can I say, I'm a work-in-progress :)

Re: New here and a bit overwhelmed.

Hi John, I'm 45 an started on a statin (generic Crestor) ~6 months ago. I have a good cardiologist and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what would be best for me in terms of future CVD and AD risk. There's so much to read, and I found it hard to come to clear conclusions on many questions I ...

Re: The Dynamic Brain Conference in LA this Summer

Hi. I just completed my registration for the Dynamic Brain conference in LA. Good for my work, and for personal interest. It'd be great to meet those attending. I'll be the tall bald guy, looking a bit jet-lagged, and taking notes. (That should narrow it down, right?) Thanks for bringing this to my ...

Re: A new role for ApoE explains its diverse range of effects, particularly in Alzheimer's

Thanks for this! Enjoyed the paper. I think I'll need one or two more sets of similar results before buying it 100%. Reading so many studies that don't pan out, I'm wary. But it does make sense that something about ApoE would provide information to cells about the availability of fats, so they can s...

This. Is what worries me. At least my statin is one less likely to pass the BBB.
But still....

Re: New - what a great site!

Hi Stavia. Those would be my basic top five for now. And I'll learn more as I go along. Right now I'm focusing on my mother - her doctor has come around to some of Dr. Bredesen's protocol but not all of it. She couldn't handle the Axona. And with her hip replacements and arthritis exercise is tough....
