Re: Review: HDL and cholesterol handling in the brain.
WA, add in a little olive oil, avocado and nuts, too. We'd like to keep you in this existence a little longer. :) Oleic acid modulates mRNA expression of liver X receptor (LXR) and its target genes ABCA1 and SREBP1c in human neutrophils. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24722912 Tomorrow isn't my ...

And for today's genetic lottery, and a possible reason why some early drugs have failed... Effects of NR1H3 genetic variation on the expression of liver X receptor α and the progression of Alzheimer's disease. Taken together, the results of the present study suggest that rs7120118 polymorphism in NR...

Re: Review: HDL and cholesterol handling in the brain.
My apologies in advance, but this will be a REALLY long post. I normally would restrain myself, but this stuff seems important and relevant. The article I found took some concentration and patience to get through, so I decided to pull out the relevant passages for the Cliff Notes (sort of) version. ...

"...doing what they love to honor those facing Alzheimer's."
I'm a science geek, and I'm guessing there are others on this forum that are, too. So, I'd say we make a great team for the Longest Day challenge, doing research for ourselves and our families.

Russ, I agree with Lilly. Find a good cardiologist and get on a statin. I'm not big on taking drugs, but please don't mess with the blockages by fiddling around the edges. Get on a statin, and then fiddle around the edges. A good cardiologist can help you fiddle. You don't want a heart attack on the...

WA, I totally expected you to jump on the MMP connection. ;) Besides curcumin/tumeric, you can look to HDIs (HDAC inhibitors) to downregulate MMP and NF Kappa B. I've looked at these because there is some RA research that says HDIs could help reduce joint erosions by inhibiting this same MMP degrada...

Can the Nervous System Be Hacked? http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/25/magazine/can-the-nervous-system-be-hacked.html A neurosurgeon, and also Feinstein Institute’s president, Tracey had spent more than a decade searching for a link betw...
