Re: Subclinical hypothyroidism due to CR/LC?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about 10 years ago. Mom has it, too. In my case, my numbers were fine (TSH maybe 2.5), but I had many symptoms (dry skin and hair, fatigue, low temp and disoriented in the mornings, etc). I also had Raynaud's in my fingers and toes. Very sharp doctor suggested try...

Re: Phlogiston's Introduction -- MCI, APOE Status Unknown

Welcome, Phlogiston! I also have a scary family history of dementia - and am very happy to have found this site! Have been aiming towards the MEND protocol for the last couple of months, getting closer and closer as time goes on. (Enough sleep is the hardest one for me!) About genetic testing - it i...

Re: 9 Areas for Prevention Focus Found in This Study

I think there is already a thread on this study: https://forums.apoe4.info/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1580 And definitely, some odd results. [Smoking is protective?? Maybe it's just that smokers who live that long without developing any chronic diseases may have some other protective genetic factors go...

Re: Diet for a toddler

I can appreciate your struggle to sort out what diet is best. And with a toddler, yet!! I have a 9 year old, and the main change we've made since I've become aware of the dangers of insulin resistance to us folks with an APOE4 allele is to slowly shift his diet further away from processed carbs and ...

Re: Progress on a new hypothesis...

Promising, indeed! And it would also explain why the drugs used to break down amyloid plaques (in experiments) have consistently resulted in significant worsening of symptoms. The plaques are clearly protective in some way. I had guessed it was by collecting the otherwise dangerous surplus amyloid a...

Re: Alzheimer's risk reduction report

Wow! This is very cool. It references a bunch of potential risk factors and studies that I have not run into before (Leg length? Head circumference at birth? Who knew?) And it's quite "read-able," too.

Thank you for posting the link!

Re: "Twilight" anesthesia suggestion for elder with early AD?

Ok, so I spoke to the Nurse Anesthetist who works at the Ophthalmologist's office. He offered to use a small dose of propofol instead of the midazolam for Mom's cataract surgery. Based on the Anesthesia thread, it seems like that might be a better option in this case. What do you think? The surgery ...

Re: "Twilight" anesthesia suggestion for elder with early AD?

Thank you both, Juliegee and Stavia! I really appreciate the reassurance :) [The folks at the doctor's office looked at me askance when I mentioned my concerns this afternoon - but were open to discussing options once I made it clear that I wasn't doubting their use of that medication in general, bu...

Re: Crazy idea...

It's an interesting idea. I would definitely consider it. I'd have a strong bias for it coming from a hopeful perspective - there is so much terror out there about the prospect of getting AD; I don't see any advantage to spreading more doom and gloom. Pretty hard to come up with new approaches if on...

Re: Question to those who've watched someone transition to MCI/AD

Dad: the first thing I noticed was some word-finding difficulty. It wasn't extreme, but was enough to bother him. In hindsight, we realized that he'd been having problems with mechanical things, home maintenance and organization for years before that, but as he did those things alone, we didn't real...
