Re: Back to the forum

Hi Brainstorming. Welcome to the forum! Sorry for your loss and the difficult journey you must have had during his illness. I've made the transition from denial and avoidance to enthusiasm and engagement, and have returned to this great web resource as part of that process. These steps sound so fami...

Re: My Promethease: No wonder I am confused

I have always been in one tail or the other of every bell curve. I can relate to that! I'm sure it is a bit unsettling to have such an ambiguous result. I have no idea why that can happen, but maybe 23andMe can shed some light on the situation or let you send in another sample. I have a Promethease...

Re: My Promethease: No wonder I am confused

Wow, that's really interesting. My interpretation is that Promethease believes your result is 2/4, but 1/3, which is exceptionally rare, cannot be ruled out entirely. Honestly, I think this is good news since E2 is associated with reduced risk for AD. What did 23andMe say your 4 was paired with? Was...

Re: Newcomer 4/4 coming out of the shadows

Hi Katie! Welcome to this amazing group! I can relate to finding out your 4/4 status in an attempt to find clues for chronic health challenges. My reaction was: Seriously? I need another problem?!!! Yes, unfortunately, 4/4 means each of your parents have at least one copy. The issue of telli...

Re: Finally accepting my 4/4 news

I would be livid too! I struggle to understand how a doctor would not understand that genetic testing -- especially something this sensitive -- is a personal decision. In my mind, it's also an invasion of privacy and not necessarily something you want in your medical record. It seems like there shou...

Re: Finally accepting my 4/4 news

Nannies23, I am impressed that you are being so proactive after just a week! I felt quite sick over the 4/4 news for quite some time, but the more I learn, the more empowered I feel. Many of us have found that as our diets improve, eventually our cravings for some of the things we thought we couldn'...

Re: Thoughts on Disclosure? (Who have you told?)

I just feel it's all about advocacy and helping people understand that there are NON-DRUG options for AD, dementia, cardiovascular, diabetes and other health diseases. We need to change the medical community's attitude about AD and get the word out - so at this point I am willing to talk to anyone ...

Re: Best diets for 4/4’s

Nannies23, Try not to panic! I too was stunned by my 4/4 result. Although my grandmother had AD and that there was a genetic component, I had never heard of ApoE4, and the initial statistics I encountered were terrifying. I tried desperately to quickly make sense of it all and make a whole lot of re...

Re: How I determined what things to work on -- My personal protocol goals

Thanks Drae for this wonderful post that is going to help a lot of people. My goal for today is to contemplate my own goals in terms of these two rather profound strategies: I choose goals on a "small enough to pursue even on a bad day" but "biggest bang for my time/effort/money."...

Re: Thoughts on Disclosure? (Who have you told?)

I have been thinking of this new being and realizing that I have substantial - and misplaced - guilt about bequeathing E4 to my children I have been struggling with this same guilt. (Interestingly, though, I do not feel any blame, knowing that my parents each gave me a copy.) But I take comfort in ...
