Re: NY Times article on AD progression

Fortunately there was a good letter to the editor in reply to the column that included a mention of Dr. Bredesen: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/04/opinion/geri-taylors-journey-with-alzheimers.html?_r=0 To the Editor: Though Geri Taylor’s positive attitude is admirable, her situation is presented as...

Thank you so much for sharing your personal story! It is truly inspiring.

Can you share some of the details of Dr. Bredesen's protocol for your case? I think we have the outlines based on his paper but any particular details would be appreciated.

Is it the Lipids effect or the APOE4 effect on Heart Disease

I found this paper from 2009 in JAMA Internal Medicine: http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=1108512 with the following conclusion: In the largest prospective cohort study to date, CHD risk was not associated with APOE genotype after controlling for a variety of cardiovascular risk...

Re: Any tests I am missing?

I can't see any that you're missing. Who are you testing with? Are you having your doctor order the tests or are you using a company that provides the doctor referral?

Applying Dr Bredesen's protocol on those diagnosed with AD

My parents (divorced and remarried) are both turning 70 this year. As a 4/4 I recognize they both have E4 as part of their APO status. Neither are interested in learning their status though. So far so good on their cognition. Yet I'm trying to think about what to do if one or both of them start deve...

NY Times article on AD progression

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/05/01/nyregion/living-with-alzheimers.html Long and touching article that follows a woman through the first few years of learning she has AD. There's also a Q&A on the disease saying that lifestyle can affect it. Unfortunately the topic of diet is relegate...

Re: The end of the diet wars?

Thanks, George, for such a thorough reply. I only have one fasting insulin reading at 4, which appears low compared to my previous 95-110 fasting blood glucose. I will definitely confirm that with my next round of blood tests.

Re: The end of the diet wars?

When do you know if your IR has been healed? As you may recall, I've been borderline pre-diabetic with A1C of 5.7 and fasting blood glucose of 95-110 mg/dL. Shifting to LCHF and intermittent fasting, my FBG has been in the mid 70s to low 80s. I've seen a few 1 hr spikes at ~125 but then it drops qui...
