Re: Celebration Thread! Biogen is going to the FDA with Aducan.

I have a lot of familiarity with this drug and I have physically manufactured it in the lab with my own hands (along with several other anti-Abeta antibodies). I've read dozens of the research papers on this antibody. I think this is a horrible precedence by the FDA, because they've approved it not ...

Re: Deep Sleep 4/4

I also got an Oura ring about 3 months ago, and I've been having fun performing experiments on myself to see what affects my sleep! Deep sleep normally happens in the first third of the night, starting soon after you go to bed. So I find it's very important what you're routine is right before bed. F...

Re: Peter Attia's latest podcast: Deep dive into APOE, Alzheimer's and brain health

I finished it this morning (it's a little over 2 hours). If you're just interested in the practical advice, it all comes in the last 20 minutes or so. The guest is a very conservative scientist, which I love. For example, he states that consumption of DHA-rich fatty fish does appear to reduce likeli...

Peter Attia's latest podcast: Deep dive into APOE, Alzheimer's and brain health

I'm about a third of the way into this podcast, and so far it is excellent.

High glycemic load meals associated with cognitive decline in E4 carriers

This is nothing new, but it's always good to get confirmation! Also, this is a long-term study with many participants. For those that don't know, "glycemic load" is essentially eating a lot of carbs (more technically, something that you ingest that raises your blood glucose). In this study...

Re: Dr. Peter Attia podcast on Alzheimer’s disease prevention

I listened to this over the weekend, and it is fantastic! A lot of ApoE4-specific content. It's quite long (>2 hours), but worth it.

Potential New Blood Test for Early Detection of AD

Just published in JAMA are results from a large study examining a blood marker for early detection of Alzheimer Disease. The marker is P-tau217, and it appears to be elevated up to 20 years before any symptoms. Surprisingly, no mention of ApoE status of the participants. Here's the paper: https://ja...

They're going to look at proteins that specifically interact with ApoE4 (or fragments thereof). I don't see a lot of research specifically aimed at ApoE4, so this is nice to see.

Re: STAT: “ The maddening saga of how an Alzheimer’s ‘cabal’ thwarted progress toward a cure for decades”

Having been in the trenches in research around the amyloid hypothesis heyday in the mid-2000's, I don't really think there was a concerted effort to ignore all other possibilities. That's just typical of science in general. The "hot" hypothesis gets all of the attention (and funds). The da...

Re: Alzheimer's Cured by Methylene Blue Celebration Thread!

Why on earth did they do the trial where the control group was dosed at 8 mg/day? There had to be some rational reason, because these trials are very expensive to run. Sounds like a new trial does need to be done with better controls. I don't think the FDA could approve a treatment based on a trial...
