Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition

Yes, the slightly high A1c was confirmed a slightly high fruitosamine twice, as Chris recommends, should my red blood cells live longer to accumulate more glucose. There may be lab quality issues. The first A1c was 5.8 (average BG of 120) was retracted five months later due to erroneously high lab r...

Re: New Study: High Blood Glucose linked to Poor Cognition

RBK, with your FBG in the 80s, do you know your HbA1c ? I'm inquiring as my FBG is persistently in the 80s with a A1c of 5.5. Even prior to this A1c, my diet has never had refined sugars/processed foods. So now thanks to this forum, I'm adding coconut oils and even less CHO. Last year, my A1c was 5....

Re: General Anesthesia & ApoE4

Just finished The Sixth Extinction (nonfiction environmental travelog) by Elizabeth Kolbert. Here's Al Gore's NYT's review: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/16/books/review/the-sixth-extinction-by-elizabeth-kolbert.html?_r=0 My Kindle Touch will play the audio. Your library may have tapes of many old ...

Re: General Anesthesia & ApoE4

That's the same abstract that I read. But like alcohol, it would seem like the least of mind-altering would be best for E4. Over two years ago, I went with general as the anesthesiologist convinced me that this was the best monitoring given my sleep apnea. What you choose, depends on what they recom...

Re: General Anesthesia & ApoE4

I had three surgeries avoiding general anesthesia before I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea (gene SNP rs405509). So with the last surgery, the anesthesiologist would only give me the option of a spinal or general anesthesia, no conscious sedation, as their "ability to control oxygenation i...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

Several weeks ago, I contacted three researchers with regard to HRT and APOE4. Two were kind enough to respond and their responses are paraphrased as follows: Dr. Josh Trutt at Physioage.com strongly recommends estrogen replacement therapy for apoe4 women. He cautions to be mindful of the estrone t...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

Actually it was these posts that persuaded me to push my doctor to prescribe Menostar! But the evidence is not in. When I put in my various genes based on PLOS One study of Hormone Treatment: Estorgen Receptor Polymorphisms and Mortality: A Prospective Cohort Study (3/23/12), I have decreased risk o...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

If you are sensitive to even using the cream and have higher blood levels, I would stick to an ultra-low dose patch. As another thin woman, I think we're accustomed to less estrogen. No fat to increase the estrogen level! My patch goes on my lower abdomen, where I can easily inspect it. Just do not ...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

Circular, I don't think that with the cream you will have any significant systemic absorption of estrogen, so this would not benefit decreasing Alzheimer's risks of E4, if you believe that estrogen can do this ; the evidence is not in yet. The patch is designed to provide a steady level over a week ...

Re: Hormone Replacement Therapy E4 Women

Thanks, Circular. He said the estrogen studies have not pulled out the E4 carriers with their data. So I'm thinking just like you, maybe in 4 years, this will occur and we will know more if estrogen benefits are worth the risk. Note I am on an ultra-low dose patch which produces a steady low level. ...
