Re: Worn a fitness tracker during practice?
When you say "practice," I'm assuming you mean exercise. I wear an Oura ring, which I like for sleep tracking. It's not intended to be worn during exercise and will not give accurate heart rate readings. I wore a couple of Fitbits in the past, but I can't speak to the accuracy because it w...

Re: New ApoE4 protective SNPs
I was genotyped with the V3 chip. When I searched for the SNP in Raw Data, it showed up.Matisse wrote:I don't see this on the V3, V4 or V5 platform of 23andme. How did you find it?

Re: New ApoE4 protective SNPs
I cannot find the rs2303697 SNP in the SNPedia, but my 23andme data shows I have C/T at that point. From other posts, I see that the T allele is protective (i.e., reduces the accumulation of myoinositol in the brain). Does anyone know if the wild type is T/T? I'm not well versed in this, but looking...

Re: Vitamin A protects cognition in E4 carriers
Thanks for posting this. I have several of the SNPs that reduce beta carotene conversion, and I didn't know about them until I read this thread. I did a Vitamin A test as part of a Genova Diagnostics NutrEval panel a year ago, and it said I was borderline on Vitamin A at the time. I recently started...

Re: Non-stick pans
I have some carbon steel pans made by Matfer Bourgeat. You season them before using them the first time, and they are essentially nonstick thereafter. You can also use seasoned cast iron for nonstick cooking, but I am leery about iron absorption. Carbon steel is also known as black steel. These pans...

Re: Ketogenic Diet: Transitioning, Experiences, Reasons, Cautions ...
Just did Rhonda Patrick's new comprehensive genetic report. Found this genetic gem, which might help explain why I feel better with higher amounts of carbs in my diet. If anyone else feels worse on keto or just not getting the results you expect, there might be a genetic component. It's one gene wh...

Re: PEMT RS7946(T,T) Fast Results After Phosphatidylcholine Supplemention
I asked Chris Masterjohn if he recommended supplementing for the PEMT SNP, and here is his response: “I don't think this means you should supplement with choline. Rather, it means that you need similar amounts of choline as everyone else but if you don't meet them you are more likely to have problem...

Re: PEMT RS7946(T,T) Fast Results After Phosphatidylcholine Supplemention
PC will spare methyl groups because they are required to create PC from choline. So, my best guess is that you ended up with extra methyl groups and started pushing the SAMe path a bit too much. Try every other day, or a smaller dose. Always good to listen to your body. And just because you are het...

Re: PEMT RS7946(T,T) Fast Results After Phosphatidylcholine Supplemention
I am heterozygous for the PEMT rs7946. I started taking Country Life Phosphatidylcholine Complex. The first three days I felt great, seemed to be mentally alert, and slept well. The fourth day I had uncommon difficulty falling asleep. I tried searching for a connection between PC supplementation and...
