Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele
For me, I think the benefits outweigh the risks too. But, I just can't tolerate the muscle pain. I do get some benefit with micro doses. I take 5 mg Atorvastatin twice a week but need to take about every 4th week off as the muscle pain becomes intolerable enough that I am reluctant to exercise. But,...

Re: Simvastatin and the ApoE4 Allele
I think the research is pretty robust as to the cardiovascular benefits of statins. But, these are population studies and we don't know what individuals do benefit. The ASCVD calculator helps, but I don't feel it is robust enough. I think looking at genetics to determine such things, like the APOE a...

Re: Can we talk about coffee creamer?
I very occasionally (especially when I'm particularly low in weight or having trouble getting into ketosis/feel hungry) put in a tiny amount of this vanilla-infused, non-dairy ghee. It is pure heaven and it completely takes the place of cream :D. This product look amazing Julie and darn, I'm now on...

Re: Both parents carry APOE4
Nannies23, Both my parents, 82 and 83 have dementia (dad severe and mom moderate). He is a E3/E4 (one copy of APOE4) and his younger brother also has dementia and his mom died of dementia. My mother's status is unknown but her sister also has dementia, though older and not as severe as mom (I suspec...

Re: Another personal loss to AD
I'm sorry for your loss Brian. I have 2 parents, both in long term care for their dementia. I can honestly say, my parents had a good diet and participated in moderate exercise. There is nothing I could have done, especially since they didn't recognize the extent of their problems, to push more inte...

Re: New study ties tau production to amyloid burden
I'm confused by the conclusion. There is an association, meaning the presence of soluble tau can also be causing the amyloid, correct? To me, the conclusion that amyloid causes the tau continues to lead us down the amyloid causing Alzheimer's hypothesis. A hypothesis which seems flawed looking at th...

Re: Qs re: homocysteine-lowering vitamins
Thanks for the timely post SGW811. Just got back my homocysteine and it is 13 and I have a MTHFR variant but not the one that increases homocysteine so I am perusing vitamins at this moment and I've settled on a Prothera Active B complex

Re: Advanced dementia?
I have 2 parents with Alzheimer's, one moderate the other severe. I would not start them on the Bredesen protocol. They are too far along to have limitations on food and are unable to take a lot of supplements.
