New protocol for linking members with health coaches

Post by slacker »

We’re kicking off a new way for our members to access quality health coaching. Several of our members have found health coaching helpful in navigating through the various and sometimes conflicting ways of minimizing risk of cognitive decline.

Health coaching is a client-centered process in which the client determines their own path and the coach provides the support and encouragement to make positive and lasting lifestyle changes. Coaches guide the client to create a vision for their health and help them set goals to achieve that vision. Coaches can supply information and education, work with clients to explore options, brainstorm, prioritize, set goals, help them stay accountable, explore barriers, and celebrate successes. For improving or preventing cognitive decline, health coaches can support clients as they learn about healthier lifestyle options and work to improve their diet, exercise, sleep, relaxation, social engagement or any other habits to reach their health goals. Note: coaches will most likely will not be physicians, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners, so will not be ordering or interpreting lab tests, or prescribing medicine.

You can find a list of ApoE4 aware health coaches in our wiki here. You can read about their background, training, and session costs, among other things. If you would like to work with an ApoE4-Aware Health Coach, you contact the health coach directly to schedule an introductory session. A list of ApoE4 aware practitioners can be found here.

Any health coach can add their information to our list, but as of this date, all of the coaches listed are certified coaches through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, and have experience volunteering on our website.

If you have personal experience with a health coach or other medical provider, you are welcome to post a review in the Practitioner Review forum.

If you have any questions about the health coaching or how to connect with a health coach, please feel free to post in this thread.

Some of the health coaches listed in our wiki are current interns with us and some are prior interns. Each health coach sets their own prices; some offer ApoE4.info discounts. The link above provides additional information.
