The majority of the statistics that are cited on APOE come from research based on populations of European descent. Just as we are frustrated when research does not separate by APOE status so we don’t know if the research is applicable to us as ApoE4s, those of non-European racial/ethnic populations are also frustrated at being largely underrepresented in research.
I collected what I know to be out there and started a new wiki discussing findings on the APOEε4 allele in other ethnic/racial populations (black, Latino, Native American, Asian, Arab). And yes, our allele does seem to act differently (sometimes better/inconsequential!) in different populations which, with more research, could lead to greater understanding for everyone.
