AD Prevention Opportunity for those in LA and Beyond...

Post by Julie G »

Hi friends! Dr. Robert Lufkin, a clinical professor of radiology at USC Keck School of Medicine, is a proponent of Alzheimer's prevention. To that end, he's created inexpensive screening MRIs with volumetrics, that also identify potential areas of concern in the sinus and dental regions, which have also been found to contribute to AD pathology. He's very kindly offered to provide 5 free MRIs to members of our community, who live in the greater Los Angeles area. If you are interested, please send me a PM with your name and email. First come, first served. There is no radiation involved. No gadolinium. You are not a part of a research study. No strings attached.

Dr. Lufkin is also putting together a free online Alzheimer's Prevention conference that will be held on May 19-20 for the latest information on Alzheimer’s disease risk identification, mitigation, and the rapidly advancing science of prevention. There will be a comparison of the many different Alzheimer's prevention approaches currently available. I'm humbled to be among the many impressive speakers he is still gathering, representing the work of our forum. You can register here for live access and I'll be posting more as the date draws closer.

Thanks. I tried but honestly didn’t manage. I clicked her name and it sent me to the messaging but when I want to select a recipient I get sent to the user database and after I find Julie and select her name I can’t return to the message form. I will figure it out. Maybe it’s my phone. Thank you

Welcome Mstarr!

I wanted to welcome you to the ApoE4 website. I hope you figured out how to private message Julie to be a part of Dr. Lufkin's Volumetrics and MRI imaging study. Otherwise, it looks like TinCup tagged her in his last post. I think because you have never posted to the website before, the site did not allow you to private message her.

If you do not get the chance to be apart of Dr. Lufkin's research for his presentation coming up, we have a Research Wiki of current Alzheimer's studies that gets updated every so often. You can find it here. Otherwise, feel free to poke around and checkout the Primer that discusses the biochemistry behind the ApoE4 gene. It was written by a physician that is currently one of our moderates on the site. If you continue to post regularly and need some tips and tricks for posting, checkout the Wiki that discuss the How to Get the Most Out of the Site.

Best of luck Mstarr,

Hello, Mstarr! Yes, this opportunity is still available. I do need to personally connect with you to figure out which imaging location is best for you. Please send me an email to juliegee@apoe4.info and we can sort our details. Several of our team members mistakenly referred to this opportunity as being research based— it isn't. Dr. Lufkin is just trying to raise Alzheimer's prevention awareness as described here:

Thank you Julie or facilitating this opportunity! I have not had any brain scans before and I think it will be fascinating to see my brain. Even if there are concerns about my hippocampal volumes, I think I want to know about it. I called the North Hollywood location and spoke to the receptionist but she was unaware of Dr. Lufkin's offer. So I replied to his email and then he called her so now I can schedule the appointment. I will let you know how it goes!

I also want to thank Julie for facilitating this, and also many thanks to Dr. Lufkin for providing it. I had the scan done March 10, and it was a wonderful experience. The office at West Hills was very professionally-operated, with full COVID-19 precautions observed. The technician who performed the scan was also very professional, and the whole procedure was completely painless and easy. They gave me a CD with the images before I left the office, and I received the written report within a few days. It took me awhile to figure out how to operate the image viewer included on the CD, but once I became proficient with it, I spent hours going over the images. I have been wanting to get this sort of a test for a long time, but I was deterred by fear of the cost. I have had trouble with Medicare declining to pay for various tests involved in my do-it-yourself cognoscopy. I first joined this group in January of 2019, and during 2019 I had made a lot of progress, but with all of the adverse events occurring in 2020 I had done a lot of back-sliding and drifted away from practicing all the good habits we need to follow. Getting this scan done inspired me to buy 4 or 5 books (including the End of Alzheimer's Program and two medical textbooks written by Dr. Lufkin), and I even ordered a small anatomical study model of the brain. I also want to thank Julie, Dr. Bredesen, and Dr. Rao for the two recorded zoom meetings they recently posted on Dr. Bredesen's web site. I watched them both and my resolve to follow this protocol has been renewed. I attached a picture of the study model. Sorry it came out in the wrong orientation. I don't know how to rotate it.
