Stavia's High Saturated Fat experiment

Post by Stavia »

ok team, as promised a couple months ago, here is the first of my dietary experiments.
The first up is high saturated fat. (Very low fat vegan will happen, but not until December).
Looking forward to seeing what Dave Feldman's protocol does for me.

Yesterday was 2000 calories (a lot for me).
82% fat. 60 grams protein. 20 grams carbs. Avocado. Bone marrow, fatty lamb chops, home made soup as vehicle for the former two (thank you Amazon.uk for my new Instant Pot). Dark chocolate.
Feel naseous. Very very full.

Today I'll try to use butter on flaxseed crackers. Egg yolks. Hope I can manage this at least for the 3 days that are necessary for LDL turnover...I know already I can't do it for weeks lol.

Will buy some more ketone strips today.

Brave girl :D. Your goal is to lower cholesterol? For those who are unfamiliar with Dave's cholesterol drop protocol, you can access it here.

Julie, thanks for the link to Dave's cholesterol drop protocol. I was aware of his work, but didn't know the extent it's now been corroborated. Check out his results from 22 people at http://cholesterolcode.com/ketofest-cho ... y-results/:

I did my own version of this quite by accident, with the tests two weeks apart.

Code: Select all

Date October 2016 November 2016
Diet High Calorie (2000) Low Calorie (1200)
Total 152 224
LDL 69 146
HDL 73 60
Trig 53 86
Looking forward to seeing your results Stavia!

Just for fun - want to see (a) how I feel - nauseous so far after eating 4 egg yolks and an ounce of butter for breakfast (b) what happens to my lipids (c) what happens to my ketones.

I wish. But I'm aiming for over 80% fat.

I hear ya... I can get ill when I have a bit too much animal protein (land based). Seafood not so much... amazing how we change when adapting to a healthier diet. Recently I decided I wanted to treat myself to a soda (Coke)... could not stomach it, it tasted like I was drinking sugar water.... poured it out and never looking back. Still like cake tho...

Thanks for sharing that table, Harrison. The results are pretty remarkable. Dave, as a citizen scientist, is certainly turning traditional thinking upside down. I'm stunned by both how labile cholesterol is, and how tightly controlled. FWIW, just as a point of clarification, Dave doesn't normally eat this way; only when he's trying to drop cholesterol. I shared a few meals with him at our recent meet up. His plate looked pretty normal, not heaped with fat. He does have this strange habit, however, of taking photos of EVERYTHING he eats with his (left?) fist in the photo as a point of reference. I think that's his way of record keeping.

You are a fierce warrior, Stavia. I'm not sure I could gorge on fat like that, but may consider it before my next physical. My insurance company makes me meet a goal to get a lower premium. My super high HDL, (115 at last check) always makes me close to the cut-off :?.
