Has anyone had problems with lipomas (benign fatty tumours) in the past? or know of any research relating to these and APOE4? I had a serious complication with one of these a few years ago causing emergency surgery. It is very rare apparently and the only thing I saw in the medical literature at the time was they were unusual in internal organs (with me, the bowel, causing an intussusception and bowel resection, ouch) and more common in middle aged women. In learning about the gene, i have wondered if may be related to how we absorb fat perhaps, not sure. May just be a random event (not meant to recur thankfully). At the time I also was eating poorly, dealing with a newborn and breastfeeding, so body under some stress, and started showing some signs of coeliac disease (partial villus atrophy in the small bowel on colonoscopy) this now seems to have resolved. I know our bodes come under some stress during pregnancy and that may have contributed as well. Many thanks.
When I looked online it said
"Lipomas are benign soft tissue tumors derived from mature adipocytes. The colon is the most commonly involved organ in the entire gastrointestinal tract. Large colonic lipoma may cause symptoms such as bleeding, intussusception, abdominal pain or constipation."

So I guess my question would be could benign soft tissue tumors derived from mature adipocytes, be related to APOE4, in any way?

Re: Lipomas
Ok, thanks!
Re: Lipomas
I was recently told that I have two in my lower back, next to my spine. Waiting for MRI approval from insurance. Mine are very painful. Can you share with me what you know about the gene that could cause them. Like you my stress level has been high, lost my son and mom in the past year and dealing with family members who have flooded their homes thank you, I'm interested to know more about the nature of lipomas

Welcome Awffp;
Stavia, one of our MD members, notes in an entry two above yours in this thread, that there is no known link between lipomas and the ApoE4 allele. Since this is an ApoE4 focused site, there may not be expertise in your more general question, but you never know! Google often has interesting answers to questions like this...just look for reputable medical websites.

Re: Lipomas
they are basically a benign fatty lump, seems they don't have any association with APOE4.
Re: Lipomas
I'm interested in this association too. From what I've gathered on the internet, they may be caused by having some fatty liver and the liver being unable to process all the fat being consumed or "recycled". So, the unprocessed fat gets deposited in random places. Additionally, anything that "stresses" the liver (ie. drinking, etc) will cause that to be worst.
For me, I got a bunch of additional lipomas when I was drinking pretty regularly, and not just one glass of wine a sitting. I was also eating pretty a high fat keto diet, with high saturated fat as well. I stopped eating like that a while ago and am now following plant paradox, ketoflex and Intermittent fasting 20/4 and I only have 1 left which has reduced in size but not gone away completely.
