Here is a link to a freshly up to date summary of photobiomodulation, very interesting stuff. It seems that there is an increasing focus (!) on this area at the moment.

wow. enormous amount of work to summarise and a beautiful review.
I am extremely skeptical as all the trials are of low quality/sample size but maybe there is something in it.
I remember well when physios used ultrasound machines and it was accepted for decades as mainstream legit. Then there was the RCT of sham ultrasound vs real.....

Stavia I wish I could take the time to read that link atm, but just wanted to make a general comment that may not even adequately relate to the link. I tend to think that in the future there will be medical interventions based on better understanding of quantum physics at the molecular level, and that these understandings might begin to explain some of the woo healing practices. I think just as modern medicine can be applied effectively and ineffectively, so could such forms of futuristic (and ancient past) medicines. In both cases, if they would otherwise be effective in a situation (big if given the complexities) they may often become ineffective when the practitioner's ego gets in the way. I would think therapies based on light and sound (beyond ultrasound) might involve something like quantum principals. Perhaps also some shamanic healing practices. Could that make any sense at a theoretical level? There seems to be a sort of boundary between classical medicine, based on molecules as physical entities, and some woo medicine, based on molecules as subject to various vibrations and quantum principles. I don't know what I'm talking about here. Would love to take a course that explores quantum biology or some such thing. I will say that this curiosity should be extremely well balanced with classical medical thinking because it's just too easy for imagination to run wild, fueled by the ego's agendas etc. And I loath the type of thing that can happen, say, when someone has cancer and they're made to feel somehow at fault or character-flawed if they can't cure it with attitude etc. Yuk! I hate: 'If anyone can beat this it's her, she's so positive!' Garbage. But we risk missing interesting possibilities if we don't explore beyond classical medicine's current paradigms. Hmm, I probably could have read the link in the time it took to write that ... Back to business ...

Both posters make good points, I don't have the expertise to judge the quality of the trials but I though some of the thyroid trials were interesting, likewise the macular degeneration ones (I was researching macular degeneration for a friend, when I came across this page).

Here's an interview with Dr Hamblin (who has a WONDERFUL accent!) but it's two years old. It would be interesting if a more recent interview became available, given the increase in trials at the moment:

I got a 830nm lamp but haven't consistently used it, as I haven't been able to find a strong, flexible enough stand to hold it in place (the lamp weighs 270gr and 13cm across the front. I have noticed that when I did use it a lot in the evening that my sleep became quite disturbed and that response was quite consistent. So I now usually use it in the mornings and that seems to work out fine. So it does have some effect but I'd need to be more consistent wrt a specific complaint.

Considering the amounts of various supplements I'm shovelling into myself without much to show for it right now, this device seems cheap and at worst harmless!

So that's where the accent comes from!
