CD33 Protective role in AD

I just found out about this gene via Prometheus report and wondered if others knew of it or had it also. There is a protective allele decreasing risk of AD apparently and I was wondering how this might affect those of us with APOE4. It relates to the clearance of amyloid plaques in the brain. It seems less expression of CD33 the better, and this rarer allele does this. It seems to be a target for potential therapy agents for AD.

This is interesting. Seems this CD33 polymorphism may have evolved over time and protects from AD...
