This is pretty interesting, sorry if someone else has posted (I did a quick search and didn't see it on here).

https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/12/health/d ... index.html

"People with the most intense pulses, which pointed to a greater and more irregular blood flow, were up to 50% more likely to suffer reduced cognitive functions, the research found, because the strength with which blood traveled into their brains caused damage to the brain's network of blood vessels."

On similar subject, (damage / loss of blood vessels) this reminded me of a new study which just came out about diagnosing using eye scans. I will find a link.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... 090958.htm

"New research from Duke Eye Center suggests loss of blood vessels in the retina could signal Alzheimer's disease. On the left, the retina of a healthy person shows a dense web of blood vessels, the highest-density areas highlighted in red and orange. On the right, the retina of a person with Alzheimer's disease shows areas in blue and teal where blood vessels are least dense. The images were captured using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA)"

In the first case, too much blood flow, and in the second not enough... You want good Cerebral Blood Flow, yet you want to avoid irregular and high blood pressure. You want plenty of nutrition to the brain without causing damage to the Blood Brain Barrier.

clearly more support for the vascular hypothesis of AD by the UTexas guys, de la Torre and G-L. L.

From the National Institute on Aging:
Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning—thinking, remembering, and reasoning—and behavioral abilities to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and activities.
AD is considered the most common type of dementia. Vascular dementia is considered another type, although many people have overlap.

u r wrongly using vascular dementia and the vascular hypothesis of AD interchangeably, but they r 2 very different things. all scientists , including Bredesen, define vascular dementia as a form of dementia involving strokes or mini-strokes. the vascular hypothesis is a theory as to the cause of AD, just as Bredesen's theory that AD is caused by the dependent receptor APP being cleaved into 4 troublesome pieces instead of 2 good pieces. I can't imagine why u r showing me a definition of dementia from the National Institute of Aging. I've posted here before that my dear wife is in a memory care facility w AD, and I visit her 6-7 days a week. so if u don't think I know what dementia is, u r asleep at the wheel. I'm offended, so please don't respond to my posts anymore.

I think you're being rude. Regardless of the correctness of someone's answer, I don't get/understand that kind of response. I do know caring for a loved one with dementia is hard, and I'll give you some "slack" and say that you have been under stress... Slacker has been helping folks on this site for a long time and doesn't deserve this. And frankly, I think you are both correct. I've had a stroke, and have had issues because of it, but I'm also 4/4. I also believe in the hypothesis that poor nutrition to the brain, by whatever name, is likely the beginning stages of AD. I'm a case where there is likely to be overlap.

mike, nope, u need to look at page 2 of the topic "Bredesen and de la Torre Divergence". slacker seems to think Bredesen is beyond any criticism at all, and she was clearly angry that I corrected her on the nature of the "36 holes in the roof" question. obviously, my one sentence response on this "Neck Blood Vessel" topic: "clearly more support for the vascular hypothesis of AD by the UTexas guys, de la Torre and G-l" did in NO WAY deserve a lecture on the definition of dementia. u know every one of the 3,000 people on this site knows the definition of dementia- that's y they're here. and I'll bet u $100 I'm the only one on this site she has EVER lectured on the definition of dementia. it's outrageous, and she crossed way, way over the line. she was the one being rude, and she owes me an apology. I was very, very deeply offended, especially given my wife's desperate circumstances. it was very oddly inappropriate, as well. L.3/4

Lars, it goes without saying that everyone on this site is sensitive to your wife’s and your situation. Many if not most of us here have dealt with a loved one who has suffered from dementia. We get all get it, including Slacker. Additionally keep in mind Slacker has a very reliable reputation over many hundreds of posts. Go back and look for yourself. Whatever slight you perceived was not personal. Truly. Let it go.
