Chromium picolinate has been found to lower LDL. In two separate studies it was observed that atherosclerosis was most prevalent in people with plasma chromium levels lower than 0.006mcg/L. Chromium picolinate taken as a 200mcg/day supplement increases plasma chromium levels and has been shown to lower LDL by 11% over a 6 week period. This was a study of only 28 subjects who had an average total cholesterol level of 276mg/dL and an average LDL level of 200mg/dL (dL is one tenth of a liter). There was no significant change in triglycerides and HDL with this dose of chromium picolinate.
