Hello!

Post by Korie »

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself and say how honored I am to be a part of this community. :D My name is Korie, and I am a student in the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and will be interning here starting in a few weeks. I hold a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology, am a Certified Thanatologist and Grief Counselor, and have worked as a Child Life Specialist for over 13 years. On a personal note, my grandmother died from Alzheimers and from that experience I grew an interest in learning more about prevention. Looking forward to learning from you all.

Warmly,
Korie

Welcome, Korie! We're delighted to have your expertise. Some of our members (myself included) have gone through a sort of grieving process after learning of their high genetic risk... not completely unlike that of someone facing a terminal illness. I suspect your specialty will offer great comfort to some members who are learning to adjust to their "new normal." Thanks for joining the project.

Welcome Korie; looking forward to working with you! What is a Thanatologist? I could google it, but would like to get your take instead. :D

Hi Slacker! Thanks for the welcome :)

Thanatology is the study of death, dying, and grief. I am a certified thanatologist and have worked both in adult and pediatric hospice providing emotional support helping families with a dying family member and then providing grief support.
