My gastro doc put me on something like what you did but more specific - the FODMAP diet. It eliminates foods that can be irritants. After a while of stabilizing you bring back something and see how your gut reacts. Really helped me, and tons of foods that are safe. Sort of gluten-free, lactose, free, fake sugar free and a few more things you might not have thought of. Meats/fish/oils are pretty much all OK. I love the 100% sourdough spelt bread. There is a phone app for a quick list of foods by category with search. Sponsored by and food testing by a university in Australia.

I agree, don't make yourself crazy. Live a healthy life style - moderate exercise, good foods (sensible eating such as mediterranean diet, FODMAP diet to find sensitivities as I posted above if you have gut issues, weight watchers diet). good sleep, good cholesterol, etc.

Know that when you are "old", everything will be changed - better diagnosis and treatment.

Thank you to all who have made comments and reached out to me. I'm coming to the realization that I have to become the expert on me in this journey. So I'm slowly taking in information and researching. I checked out AlzU.org and feel that it is one of the best resources for unbiased, research-based information without becoming overwhelmed by it all. Slowly but surely, I'm learning and moving forward in my efforts to prevent the onset of AD symptoms. Doing my best to do what I can so my kids can't blame me for not trying :D

Hi JulieMc,

AlzU.org is a great resource, and becoming an expert on what works for you is a terrific investment that will reap benefits for decades. Dr. Isaacson’s commitment to providing a free resources to as many people as possible after realizing his clinic at NYU could see only a tiny fraction of the need is an example of “taking care of the community”. I’m sure your kids will model your optimism and determination in their own lives! (Maybe not in cleaning their rooms, though. ;))
4/4 and still an optimist!
