Over the past 5 years, the masks have improved and more specialists are starting out at low pressures, allowing an auto-adjusting machine to determine pressures. My husband failed initially and remained off for years, as they set too high for starting pressures and gave him a full-face mask. Please update me after your appointment.

What wonderful knowledge here.

On the concern "I am doing this to preserve my relationship with my GP". I get it! I have found that many don't know about LDL particle count, etc., but that most have heard of TC to HDL as a good measure of risk. You might be able to bring that up to your GP since yours in excellent. I think they understand that "HDL removes cholesterol (generally speaking even though LDL has brought it to the artery" (I think that statement might be simplified based on the work of Bredesen, et al, but I think most doctors do understand that). The blood lab my doctor uses has started publishing the TC/HDL ratio, they know it is that important. So...maybe approach your GP that way, with your exceptional HDL, as being a reason not to need a statin.

I am still not sure of whether statins help/hurt with Alzheimer's risk for those who are ApoE4 (studies are contradictory) but if you have what are really "low risk" numbers regarding cholesterol...and yours are low risk....then it seems a shame to take the risk of taking statin, when your brain my need the cholesterol that you are producing to lower your Alzheimer's risk - (notice the *may* in that last sentence).

This issue is on my mind a lot because my LDL and HDL numbers are not that great, but I am afraid of statins At the moment I take 10 mg Lipitor which gets the numbers to the point my doctor wants them, but I am going to start working harder on things that lower insulin resistance and see if that does not also naturally lower my cholesterol numbers.
