What happened to DASH Genomics?

Post by j.stevenson01 »

Are there any other companies that offer a similar service, e.g. predicted onset age, risk score, 50% cumulative risk age etc.

Hi Joseph,

Great question and something of a hot topic for researchers trying to figure out who really is at risk, and at what age. But given the heterogeneity or diversity of probably factors influencing development of Alzheimer's, researchers seem to generally looking at either rare genetic contributors (less than 1% of the population likely to have the gene variant), combinations of genes or specific environmental factors that may contribute. I've been involved in reviews of grant applications studying the risk of Alzheimer's in people with traumatic brain injury (including military in the UK and US) and even that, which would seem to be a likely risk, has lots of conflicting data.

What all researchers can tell you is that having a purpose in life, having passions (like for aircraft design), having people who "get you" and support you, continuing to pursue learning in school or out, and having regular exercise and a diet with "healthy" fats are likely to add years of health to your life.

Here's a great section from the Primer, written by our ApoE 4/4 M.D. Stavia, on the benefits of:
