For what it's worth, I'm in support of advance requests. I believe that how you wish to spend your last years, regardless of whether they're happy years or not, should be your choice. However, this doesn't imply that efforts to destigmatize dementia and support those living with it should fall by the wayside.The chasm between Mann and Posno’s visions of their future, and the ways in which the Alzheimer Society has struggled with this issue, all point to the same truth that underpins the confounding issue of advance requests: How and when you wish to die is, really, about how you want to live.
