Welcome back, ktg000!ktg000 wrote:Hi all..I haven’t been around for some time. How is everyone..Stavia, Julie, Starfish..you all helped me so much at the start. I pop up every now and again. I’m 4/4. I did 23andme to find out about the BRCA mutations as my mom died of ovarian cancer at 46 (I’m 40 in 3 weeks). I hadn’t realised at the time but not all mutations are tested. I’ve now found out I’ve got a BRCA 2 mutation through a private test. My genes are rubbish aren’t they! Anyone else got both?! Just for moral support really.

I recently completed 23andme testing and uploaded the data to promethease. I always knew I had some unfortunate genetics (family history says a lot) but wow! It turns out I have two apoe4 alleles and two mutations on my brca2 gene (substantially increasing my risk of breast/ovarian cancer). Both of my grandmothers had AD and my mom died at age 50 from ovarian cancer. My dad and the men on his family have a very serious history of cardiac disease....It helps to know I'm not alone. I've begun going through the primer and I'm looking forward to diving in deeper. If anyone has words of wisdom for navigating these first couple weeks please pass them on. It has been quite a shock.

I would be happy to talk to you about the organization. I was tested for the BRCA gene about 15 years ago and I'm BRCA1. I was concerned for my children, especially my daughter since there was such a strong family history of breast and ovarian cancer. It turned out both my son and daughter, unfortunately, have the gene.
Also a family history, my father, of alzheimer's. I'm e4/e3 and so I'm concerned about that as well. Best, Michael
