I highly recommend Dr. Lesley James, who practices integrative medicine in Pittsford, New York, a suburb of Rochester (between Buffalo and Syracuse area). She is board certified in family medicine and integrative medicine, and has practiced since 2002. She recently registered for Bredesen certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine, and her practice includes CNS Vital Signs (neurocognitive testing).

Please look up her excellent website for details about her background, mission and philosophy, as well as services and contact information: lesleyjamesmd.com

My experience with her has been wonderful. I became a patient of Dr. James one year ago (roughly) because I was interested in a more holistic approach to thyroid issues I was experiencing (Hashimoto’s). Her holistic approach included the recommendation to understand my overall health through various tests, including the 23 and me kit. Finding that I have APOE 4/4 from that data set, our focus has turned to include optimal practices (diet, supplements, stress management, etc.) related to brain functioning.

Dr. James is very knowledgeable, caring, and thoughtful in her advice. She supports the Bredesen approach, but not at the exclusion of other approaches and ideas. Of the many qualities I value in Dr. James, some that stand out for me include: she is open-minded, science-driven, deeply knowledgeable, takes a balanced view and is practical. She is also an excellent listener, and provides advice in a very thoughtful manner. I leave her office feeling understood and equipped with an action plan.

Regarding costs – Dr. James is sensitive to cost issues for patients, and her office staff provide tips to help keep costs of testing affordable, and how to maximize what insurance will pay for. I appreciate her sensitivity in this regard, and have found my sessions, testing, and suggested medications and supplements to be well worth the costs I have incurred to date.

Also, regarding communication: Dr. James is in private practice and has office staff who are excellent. Phone calls are always answered during business hours and concerns responded to promptly. Patients can correspond directly with Dr. James through patient portal email. Dr. James responds promptly in my experience, most often within 24 hours.

Please let me know if there is any further information I can provide. I would be happy to!

Hi efcole, Thanks for the careful review. I'm thinking of using Dr. James, particularly as a nutrition and blood (and other) testing guide. Have you continued to go to her yourself? If you don't mind I'd be quite interested in how any further experience has been?

Hello JamesR. I know this is a bit off subject, but since this is your first post I wanted to make sure to welcome you to the ApoE4.info community. So welcome from a fellow native of the Buffalo/Rochester area!

As you have likely already found there are lots of great resources and many terrific members here at ApoE4.info. One such resource is the Primer written by a doctor who is herself, ApoE 4/4. It is an introduction to ApoE4 and possible prevention strategies. Also, the How-To Guide can help you navigate the ApoE4.info website. And if you feel so moved, please consider telling us more about yourself in Our Stories. Please let us know if you need anything.

Warmly,

Jenny B-C

Hi James,

I'm going to use the quotation mark in the upper right hand corner of efcole's post to make sure she gets an email notification of your question. Anytime you want to be sure someone sees your post, you can simply click on the quotation mark in that upper right hand corner. Hope you're enjoying cold weather and lots of snow this winter!
