Interestingly, in this interview, Tim Ferriss mentioned that he has a friend to tests his serum ketones very frequently. This friend noticed that they would increase whenever he ate artichokes and was able to repeat this. Tim asked ketone researcher Dom D’Agostino about this. Dom said that artichokes were mostly fiber. He also noted that cows are ketotic, because of the short chain fatty acids from the fermentation of the fiber in their grass by the gut bugs and there are ketones in dairy (a "horsey" friend also told me horses need to eat to stay warm - from the heat byproduct of fermentation). I'm wondering if a human took the primate "leaf" diet to the extreme if it would actually be a fairly high fat diet from the fermentation byproduct short chain fatty acids... Not sure a human has enough gut volume to survive for a long period of time on such a low grade fuel. However some of the gut biome researchers note that hunter/gathers (mostly gatherers) they've studied consume 150-200g/day fiber and their plant variety can range up to 200 different species over the course of a year.
