Yup.... Rereading the ADDF report, I see there are two separate issues: effects that show up a few days or weeks later, and then, the risk of a dementia that shows up years later. The former seems not be more of a problem for ε4s, but the latter, likely. Now, I don't want any of you to worry your past surgeries, but... feeling OK in the days or weeks after any kind of anesthesia might not be a gage of risk of late-onset dementia years later. But the research is not definitive at all.

I spoke with someone from the surgical team about a spinal block and he seemed not to like that idea for two reasons, one odd, one not so odd: "Well, it's not without risks to the nerves in the spine" (OK, I can see THAT, even if the risks are minor), and "you probably would have to stay overnight". That last reason seems weird, like he's channeling the voice of the state, which is trying to save money. I mean, what's wrong with staying in the hospital overnight?

And yes, I'd love the link to the guided imagery tape!

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the support.

Got my appointment. Meeting with anesthesiologist tomorrow, operation on Wedn. Phew. Nervous, but I'm sure it will be fine.

Didn't realize what a big deal the anesthesiology part is -- that they set up a whole separate appointment to discuss it. But I guess it makes sense: it's about a controlled state of near-death -- at least in many cases. I'm going to explain the ε4 business, of course.

Thanks for the thoughts and support.
