Safe body oil?

Hi all,

New here but I've read Dr. Bredesen's and Dr. Gundry's books. Also skimmed the primer--I'll go back for a more thorough read later.

Does anyone have recommendations for a safe body oil to use? I do like using an oil right out of the shower--my skin is terribly dry, especially in the winter. The one I have been using contains sunflower, sesame and soybean oils. If I wouldn't put them in my mouth, I shouldn't put them on my skin, right?

I do not like using coconut oil--too greasy, doesn't absorb well and ruins my clothes! Any suggestions? My budget is a factor!

Many thanks!

Katydid

Katydid, are you familiar with the EWG Skin Deep Database? It is my go-to to find any safe toiletry or cosmetic. Good for you for being aware that toxins can be spread transdermally. Many medications are actually applied transdermally so we know that they can enter the bloodstream from the skin. So can toxins. I plugged in "body oil" and got lots of hits you can see here. You want to stay with a product that is labelled green with as few warnings as possible.

One thing the results in that database won't show is whether the ingredients will kill healthy skin biome organisms. However, having done a slight bit of reading yesterday about essential oils and various gram negative and positive bacteria, I've learned that this issue with respect to essential oils is complex and doesn't lend itself to simple answers, i.e., such and such oil will or won't kill our good bacteria.

I did look at the database and selected an oil that seemed like a safe bet. However, on checking, I found it contains safflower and soybean oils, which are in the product I have been using.

Perhaps EWG does not screen for healthy oils? That said, I will have to go back to the database and look into others that might be acceptable.

This may seem like a small thing, but it is a daily habit and might as well be healthy.

Please let me know if anyone is using products they recommend. Thanks!

Hi Katydid,

I also search EWG.org database for safe products but there are a few more places I look for nontoxic face and body cosmetics. My last discover is: https://follain.com/
They definitely have a wide selection of safe brands, but I still suggest to check a list of ingredients on each product.

I hope you will find something.

Hi Katydid,

I like shea butter products, argan, almond and jojoba oils. Alaffia has some nice products. Aloe Vera as well. Hope that helps some!

Thx.
