What fish oil / DHA brand do you use?

Post by bexnews »

In Plant Paradox Gundry recommends Kirkland brand or Carlson's. When I read Chris Kresser's buying guide https://chriskresser.com/the-definitive ... ers-guide/ he only recommends really a few brands. Gundry says we should be getting ~1000mg DHA daily. For all these products that would either mean a lot of pills daily or very $$. Kresser recommends only certain brands that provide testing to make sure the products aren't tainted. Gundry seems a bit more tolerant. What do you all do and in what quantities are you taking your fish oil? I realize alternatives might be perilla oil, krill oil or cod liver oil.

I use Ovega because its gelatine free. I take 2 caps (500mg) and top up with salmon/ sardines. Its probably not enough.

The only kind I can get my wife to take are the lemon flavored ones. ie, burp up lemon instead of fish. ;)

They are these:

Nordic Naturals - Ultimate Omega, Support for a Healthy Heart

1280 mg total Omega 3s
650 mg EPA
450 mg DHA
180 mg "other" Omega 3s

Serving size is two capsules.
I take two with breakfast and two with dinner.

I plan to get tested, soon ... I think I might be getting too much.

Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Phospholipids

Per serving of 2 gels:

690 mg omega-3 (295 EPA, 300 DHA, 95 other)
448 mg Phospholipids (384 phosphotidylcholine, 64 other phospholipids)

I have problems with fish oil so I can't take much in any form, but I liked that these are phospholipid-bound omega 3s. I heard about them from Dr. Rhonda Patrick who takes them. I'm trusting her hunch/knowledge that the phospholipid-bound version better incorporates into the cell wall ... or something like that? Maybe just a convenient way to get both omega 3s and choline in the same supplement.

I use Green Pasture Blue Ice Royal Butter Oil / Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend - CINNAMON GEL in the morning and in the evening take 2 Now Foods Ultra Omega 3, Fish Oil Soft-gels, which contain 500mg EHA and 250mg DHA each. The Now brands don't give me any fish taste, aftertaste, or burps!

I mostly just eat sardines 3-5 times per week. But when I do supplement, I use Virgin brand cod liver oil...

I use more regularly in the winter to boost immune system. I actually like the taste.
