Protective Polymorphism re Age-Related Memory Decline & AD

Post by LillyBritches »

Did you guys see this?

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... th+News%29

Y'all might have discussed this on the forum already. And I found the SNP: rs17070145 - on the WWC1 gene - chromosome 5. The protective allele is "T" - either CT or TT:

I'm CT. I finally get a break. Hubby and mom are both CC. So I guess I got ONE good thing from dad...

2010 abstract:

The 2013 study:

Sigh. I am CC also. That is ok. I did exercise today. I am counting on Julie to tell me what to do. (except I do like a little red wine).

Me too. Kathleen- just a little. They can all do victory laps around us...as we sip our red wine :D

BTW, I was counting on YOU to tell me what to do. We all learn from each other.

Well, I'm CC, along with so many other bad AD SNPs, except only 3/4. So today I'm even more vigorously avoiding those "healthy carbs", edging toward a better Mediterranean diet. This can be a 3-month trial to get my A1c (5.5) lower, yet keeping the low-risk lipid profile.

I'm CC at rs17070145. I have always considered memory/recall to be one of my weaker cognitive attributes - maybe this SNP is a factor?

Maybe I should join the red wine club, CC here.

Just throwing this out there - when I see these verbal recall studies, I'd guess I personally might do poorly even today. But ask me about a smell, show me a visual, a color, throw in music, etc, and I have TONS of memories. If I drive somewhere once, I can always find my way back, but rarely remember the actual address. I tend to think in terms of interconnections, systems, spatially, visually with a bit of music thrown in (of all things), so I'm a bit on the right brain side of the scale.

Do studies control for right (nonverbal) or left (verbal) brain orientation? We all do have a preferred orientation.

I think about the studies that show that music can help AD patients...

Susan,
You and everyone in this group are welcomed to be in the red wine circle.
I'm CT in this SNP and I owe any success I have in avoiding AD to red wine. Just hope I remember to drink my daily glass.

Me (e4e4)-ct, mom and daughter (e3e4) are ct. My dad (4/4) and husband (3/3) are cc. There is a discernable difference in the memories of the ct's in my family vs the cc's. My husband is always astonished at the recall I have over events dating back over my life. My first memory is from an event that occurred with my newborn sister and I was two years four months old. I also have excellent facial recognition. However please don't think I'm resting on this snp...I believe I have some inherent processing deficits attributable to my 4/4.
