Switching Diets for Gastroparesis Sufferers

Post by Jtmon »

Hi,

The Bredesen diet is heavy on the fiber - particularly fibrous vegetables like cruciferous vegetables. Fiber, however, is deadly to people who have Gastroparesis (a partial or total paralysis of the mechanism of peristalsis due to damage of the vagus nerve) because it delays gastric emptying - exacerbating the condition. I already have to rely on medication that isn't even available in my country to treat this horrible disorder. At its extreme, Gastroparesis sufferers cannot eat at all and must be put on parenteral feeding. How can I benefit from the diet if I must avoid almost all fiber?
