Dr. Gundry Cardiovascular Lab Tests

Post by ds4657843 »

My mom developed severe dementia in December 2019 and started the Bredesen protocol in February of 2020. I found Dr. Gundry and Bredesen on youtube in December 2019. I bought Dr. Gundry's Longevity Paradox book and changed my diet right away. I am a 41-year-old male and getting myself checked out with a functional medicine doctor. The doc is concerned about my Cardio IQ results. I only eat foods from Dr. Gundry's yes list. I was also concerned when looking at my Quest Cardio IQ results, but I've read several topics on this forum and possibly Dr. Gundry only looks at certain tests to monitor cardiovascular health. I've only taken the tests below so far. If there is no value listed, I haven't had that test yet. A comment to the right of any value is either from my doctor or Quest.

Welcome.

Quick thoughts. My 4/4 wife and I have been patients of Gundry since 2015. We've had 11 consults and have posted transcripts as well as our labs, all linked here. You can get a sense of his approach by reading the transcripts.

As 4's, he wants our omega 3 index >10
As 4's, my wife and I are very sensitive to saturated fat on lipid tests, hence we minimize and our animal foods are white fish, shell fish and eggs (though I'm sensitive to eggs, so avoid now).
Gundry looks at the PULS test for cardiac risk (soft plaque).
Have you had a CAC scan? Gundry's not a fan, a zero score would be expected at your age. If you have a score > 0 at your age, then that would tell something.
Though may have missed it on my quick scan of your numbers, didn't see an Lp(a) test. The risk from high Lp(a) is separate and Gundry pays attention.
You are correct, he's not a fan of NMR tests.

A warm welcome to apoe4.info, so glad you found us! I first wanted to acknowledge the research you've already done around minimizing your chances of developing symptoms. You are in the right place and I know will find many people who know Dr. Gundry's and Dr. Bredesen's recommendations around the many markers to be tracking. I am a support team intern and wanted to share a few useful links with you to help familiarize you with this site.

First is the How-to-guide, it will help you get the most out of the ApoE4.info website. It is created to help new (and not so new) members navigate the site. This area explains how to use the quotes button so that the other member receives an email notification of your reply, how to search for topics, how to subscribe to topics of interest and more, including lab markers

My favorite is the Primer, written by one of our member physicians, Stavia, who is APOE4/4. It is great introduction to ApoE4, biochemistry, and possible prevention strategies in addition to exploring areas such as the science behind the ApoE4 gene and the lifestyle factors that impact its expression. It is a wealth of information - a great place to start and to come back to time and again!

Lastly our wiki Index offers a wealth of additional information and details the muti-factorial approach to taking control of your brain health. Useful for searching specific topics of interest.

We would also love to know more about you and what led you here, so we invite you to share your journey by creating a new topic in Our Stories. This is something that we encourage all new members to do so they get the opportunity to engage further on the site, especially if their first post is low on details.

Enjoy your learning experience in the forum

Looks a bit high to me. It is discussed in this Peter Attia MD podcast. at around 1:10.

You are basically healthy. I'd probably test every 6 months at your age, unless you want to attack something specific, then you could change something and retest just what you are interested in more frequently.

Thanks for posting your Dr. Gundry consults and transcripts. I read the two most recent transcripts and reviewed the labs. I will eventually read them all. This is so valuable. I have not had a CAC scan.

My Lp(a) is < 10, Myeloperoxidase is 159, and Lp-PLA2 Activity is 128, hs-CRP is 0.4

I'll see if my functional medicine doctor can order these tests:
PULS Cardiac Test
ADMA (asymmetric dimethylarginine)
SDMA (symmetric dimethylarginine)
OxLDL
sdLDL
Apolipoprotein A1
Apolipoprotein B
ApoB/ApoA1 Ratio
Galectin-3
NT-proBNP
Zoomer Food Sensitivity
