She states, "Because there is no cure", and doesn't mention prevention. Perhaps some education needed here?
Maria Shriver Launching "Wipe out Alzheimer's Challenge"
Re: Maria Shriver Launching "Wipe out Alzheimer's Challenge"
Maria focuses on women. Her connections and celebrity could be very useful to the cause. She may be an E4 herself. Perhaps a woman from our group could contact her and educate her on the positives that are happening.ABrain4Me wrote:

Great suggestion, George. I shall add it to my list You're right. She could be a powerful ally in spreading the prevention message.
Speaking of the power of prevention...has everyone seen the preliminary results (2 years) from the FINGER study? Compelling RCT evidence that a comprehensive interventional program (similar to what many here are employing) can delay cognitive decline. Prevention works. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 210415.htm

Here's the recent study:

No stratification by APOE status, but they will be looking at that in the future. (Low-ish/avg.-ish fat and grains! Who'd'a thunk? But with so many ind. variables, who knows what really did the trick.)

What about the use of vegetable margarine and rapeseed oil? What the heck?

Great find, Gilgamesh. My bad for burying this in an off-topic thread. I’m moving it to a dedicated topic to be more searchable: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1239&p=13111#p13111
Re: Maria Shriver Launching "Wipe out Alzheimer's Challenge"
I joined....Maria has a first line relative who had alzheimer's her father Sargent.
It is the same for Diabetes, no cure but prevention! It takes a lot of work and some cannot adhere to, they want a pill and even with that I caution on the side of not doing too much such as mega vitamins or marathons....
and another reminder half of all people with Alzheimer's do not have the APOE4 marker! which also would lead to lifestyle/environment being a big factor....I walk/run but how is the fumes cars and pesticides effecting me?
I wonder if there's geographical areas with bigger clusters of Alzhiemer's diagnosis...

Re: Maria Shriver Launching "Wipe out Alzheimer's Challenge"
Some of us have been dismayed by Maria Shriver's very public recitation of the Alzheimer's Association's claim that there is no way to prevent (or reverse) Alzheimer's. She learns differently in this great interview that she recently conducted with Dr. Bredesen: https://www.facebook.com/mpicognition. I like that she's now eager to act as a spokesperson to spread the prevention message.
