To make the best use of our limited time with the various experts we will be visiting during our Meet-up in May, let's compile our questions for them here. For those who plan to attend (and for those who can’t join us), please share your questions for Dr. Robert Mahley here. Obviously, those who are in attendance, will have the opportunity to have their questions addressed first; but we will do our best to get ALL questions answered and report back.
Dr. Mahley, is the founder and past president of Gladstone Institutes as well as an internationally known expert on heart disease, cholesterol metabolism and, more recently, Alzheimer’s disease. He studies plasma lipoproteins and particularly apolipoprotein E (apoE), the major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. His seminal research has defined apoE’s critical role in cholesterol homeostasis and atherosclerosis. To learn more about Dr. Mahley, please explore the links below:

A Study with Dr. Robert Mahley
Re: Questions for Dr. Robert Mahley
Is my Kraus question appropriate here?
And if the latter, how would he recommend we eat so as to minimise risk? And how does he view statins in us?We know we have higher LDL (total and particle number) than e3s and e2s. How critical does he feel our higher LDL is in us developing AD? (Not CVD). Is it a just a marker of the apoe4 (and obviously predisposes to CVD through the usual processes) or is it involved directly in the pathogenesis of AD in us?
Re: Questions for Dr. Robert Mahley
Not sure if who is the best one to ask a cholesterol lab question:
Many of us follow our lipids with advanced testing panels. Please comment on the reliability of the various testing methods (i.e. NMR, electrophoresis, fractionalization) and newer testing of oxidized LDL (vs just ApoB or LDL-P) or calculating the HDL/HDL-P ratio.

Statins - With the brain synthesizing its own cholesterol, what are their thoughts on statin use and impact of low serum cholesterol.
Re: Questions for Dr. Robert Mahley
Question for Dr. Mahley or Dr. Huang:
How far away are they from a clinical trial with their apoE structure correctors?
