The new study has spurred me on to play with sofrito again. I have a big pot simmering now, but also found a great cold version for summer: http://latinfood.about.com/od/beginnerr ... osteps.htm
I can't wait to try this...so seasonal and chock full of antioxidants and phytonutrients!
Can anyone get full-text of the new study? It may reveal some additional clues.
Predimed Revisited...
Re: Predimed Revisited...
Julie I only have my phone and we are about to depart for a small island off Vancouver for two days. Sorry honey
Re: Predimed Revisited...
I've tried on my phone. Almost impossible. But I did find a predimed apoe subgroup analysis I sent to you.
Btw there are 45 subgroup analyses of predimed. Lol.

It's easy to guess:Stavia wrote:I've tried on my phone. Almost impossible. But I did find a predimed apoe subgroup analysis I sent to you.

4/4 group too small and excluded from analysis.
3/4 group showed some (not significant) improvement, probably localized to some tests/brain areas
3/3 group showed significant improvement
right?
Re: Predimed Revisited...
LOL, ApropoE4- you're not getting cynical on us, are you? FWIW, you're probably pretty close. Here's the E4 paper that Stavia referenced. I had it linked to my initial post: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4026432/
Stavia needs to have fun and not worry about this...but I'd greatly appreciate if someone else has access of the new paper and can share.

Re: Predimed Revisited...
Not cynical at all, but practically all of the dietary intervention/observation studies I've seen are like that.
Re: Predimed Revisited...
I've got hold of an ipad. Found it with great difficulty
I'll try email it to Julie
I'll try email it to Julie
Re: Predimed Revisited...
Lots of e4s actually. 14 in each intervention group and 24 in the control. Results independent of e4 status. Julie you can have a good look and see what you think.

Re: Predimed Revisited...
I'd love to see this paper if somone can email to me.
Note:
As I noted before, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in this research effort:
1) Massive conflicts of interest.
2) Olive oil is given at 140 g per day; nuts a tiny fraction of that.
3) The low-fat group wasn't very low-fat (despite the advice).
Somewhere I read it was 1 liter per family, but that's still imprecise, and, one would expect, in many cases, a lot.
I'll need to read the original protocol again. Our Richard had some good points on it (as did Michael Rae over at crsociety.org). Won't have access to my notes for a few days.

Note:
And look at the conflicts of interest (see the previous paper Julie linked to).Interventions Participants were randomly assigned to a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extravirgin (sic) olive oil (1 L/wk), a Mediterranean diet supplemented with mixed nuts (30 g/d), or a control diet (advice to reduce dietary fat).
