News from our SFO Meet-up
Re: News from our SFO Meet-up
I'm so excited about the retina scans!!!! But! Is it a case of positive positives but negative may still mean positive, i.e., progressing to AD despite no plaque in the scan?
ApoE 3/4 > Thanks in advance for any responses made to my posts.

Re: News from our SFO Meet-up
George thanks and hope the sample size was large enough. There still are a lot of avenues open in what is already known worth exploring.
"Will one's amount of cognitive reserve influence how successful the Bredesen protocol is for them? "
there is a constant brain adaption going on, even to beneficial supplements where they will lose effectiveness if not cycled, there is a term for it, not sure at the moment but look at below to get a start, if this is what you meant in an tangential way.

I believe it was quite a large dataset. One of the other attendees will have the name in their notes.GenePoole0304 wrote:George thanks and hope the sample size was large enough.
Mahley and Huang's paper: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/ipdf/10.1021/jm3008618 should go into quite a bit of detail on their hypothesis. Perhaps someone has full access.

Re: News from our SFO Meet-up
I just remembered a potentially important tidbit for male homozygotes that Dr. Bredesen shared during his talk. Apparently, this subset has an increased propensity for intercranial hemorrage. He warned that 4/4 males may need to exercise caution when using supplements, like fish oil, that thin the blood. This is particularly important for those with a family history. This does NOT apply to 3/4 males or females. I hope other attendees will add more detail here...I was stuck in the front row without pen & paper.
The link to the event should be available soon.

Re: News from our SFO Meet-up
Is cerebral hemorrhage the same thing? Now I wonder if my great grandfather might have been a 4/4, because he died of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 50.
Re: News from our SFO Meet-up
There are many subgroups of bleeding in the brain or from the lining of the skull ie in the head. And many causes. Also, 30 to 40 plus years ago pre-scans, an accurate diagnosis could only be made at autopsy. I'd be hesitant to extrapolate from that anecdote.rep wrote:Is cerebral hemorrhage the same thing? For those who couldn't join us in San Francisco, here is a link to our kick-off event at The Buck Institute for Research on Aging. We had a packed auditorium -over 250 people- join us. The video quality isn't as good as I was hoping for... For instance, you can't see the screen where Dr. Bredesen displays his video clips or graphics- sorry. Hopefully, you can still get the gist of his talk. The voices of people asking questions at the end has been distorted to protect their privacy: http://player.vimeo.com/external/130560 ... ile_id=119
