So she took out part of my omentum to make things easier if she had to go back in, and I can be grateful I lost that bit of my body needlessly.The odd thing is that I had a rare 'struma ovarii', 1% of ovarian tumors. It's a subset of dermoid cyst (2-3% of them) that is over 50% thyroid tissue. In one study of almost 10,500 ovarian growths removed, only 34 were OS. So it was probably more likely I'd have had the uncommon ovarian cancer than one of those!
I've learned that not having ovaries may (?) raise my cardiovascular risk, so will try to learn more about that, in what way etc, but that's for another day.
This whole experience has been so surreal.
