Hey gang,
Anyone looked into chelation therapy for plaque?

Make sure you have adequate levels of VitK. This link may also help: http://drsircus.com/magnesium/calcifica ... iosulfate/

G, I'm sorry to hear you've got plaque. I hope it's not too bad. I hadn't heard of chelation therapy for plaque, but that might be worth our time investigating. However, for me, it will have to wait until I have one less ball in the air. But thanks for bringing this up.Gilgamesh wrote:Hey gang,

And thanks, John, for all the links!

G,
Won't claim to be an expert, but after my high calcium score, my Dr (a prominent 'paleo' physician) suggested looking into chelation. But my own investigations left me w high uncertainty including some downside, so I never did it.
In my then consult w Dr Gundry, largely based on my inflammation markers, he was much less concerned about it which eased my mind a bit. He felt that it was very often a relic of the past rather than a sign of present concern. Since then I focus on what I can do for current health instead of changing my past.
What I did do was switch to a more potent form of Vitamin K2 for which there is some support that can not only prevent but actually reverse calcification... as summarized here by the pretty scientifically rigorous and objective Dr Stephan Guyenet, PhD...

Here's the Rotterdam study which gave original strong favorable results for K2...

..and a later paper here...

Here's the form of K2 I switched to later specifically noted by Chris Masterjohn...
[I would have to go back and listen to the last podcast he mentioned K2 in, but can't recall that Chris specifically addressed reversal?]
Because some of the research implies higher doses than single capsules, I periodically switch up dosing levels to 2x a few times a week and up to 4x every once in a while.
Will be interested to hear if you come up with any further insights on merits of K2 or reversal of calcification.

Re: Is calcification reversable?
I have a high coronary calcium score. The functional medicine MD I saw last year recommended I take Vitacost's Ultra Vitamin K with Advanced K2 Complex. Each capsule provides 100 mcg Vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-7), 1300 mcg Vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-4), and 1000 mcg Vitamin K1 (phytonadione).
It's a good thing I checked the doctor's summary. He recommended I take four capsules a week with meals. I've been taking one a day.
Is there anything bad about taking too much Vitamin K, other than wasting money?

Re: Is calcification reversable?
John and Russ, thanks for the links! My calcification was described as "minimal", so I'm not too worried. But the urologist looking at the images (in showing me where my kidney stone was) was surprised that I wasn't a smoker....
It just sort of freaked me out after so many years on CR. (But with my horrible genes, the few months here and there of going off CR could have done a lot of damage.)
Alysson, I know the "too many balls in the air" feeling.... I think I'll up my K2 intake a bit, though, for now, and will continue researching this. But, not right now. I have a chance to get a deep discount on NAD+ infusions, so I'm reading up on that.
