I think the point of skipping MCT oil or any oil for that matter is when you are fasting for autophagy not just to remain in ketosis. I love my bulletproof coffee but don’t want to consume any calories before I have met my 16 hour fasting window.

Thank Mick, I agree skipping any oil would be important for staying within a fasting window, although it sounds like Dr. Bredesen is saying he's concerned with staying on MCT oil once one is generating their own ketones, regardless of fasting aims. I'm not at all knowledgeable about the different medium chain triglycerides, but I got the impression, based on Dave Asprey's description of his XCT oil, that C8 and C10 would be healthier than for example C12. (Just referencing Dave Asprey's product for discussion.) I guess since they're all a form of saturated fat, that probably explains why Dr. Bredesen indicates we should avoid them all. All that said, I'm not worried about teh 1/2 tsp I use in my very occasional 'bulletproof coffee light'.

I appreciate the discussion and will begin taking MCT oil to clear up my thinking.....Here is the info from B's book as indicated below quote:
"Include good fats in your diet, such as those from avocados, nuts, seeds,olive oil, and MCT oil. One approach, used successfully by some members of the website ApoE4. info, is to use MCT oil until you restore your insulin sensitivity. Then, since MCT oil is saturated fat and therefore on the “eat less” list for those with ApoE4, switch over to polyunsaturated fatty acids such as those in olive oil and other cold-pressed oils, or monounsaturated fatty acids such as those in nuts."

Hi, didn't expect that so many people are interested in bulletproof, I also like it, drink every morning before any meals, it tastes great!

I love my Bulletproof coffee in the morning and alternate between drinking the recipe as prescribed versus adding in some collagen powder and even a little egg white powder which gives it a foamy top. Bulletproof coffee is great, especially if you are going for a keto-style diet. I find that I have more energy and feel sharper throughout the day. Mixing in a good MCT oil will boost the effect but you might have to try different brands to see which one works best for you. I never got into the ghee vs. butter thing... anyone have a good effect one way or the other?

Re: cash-based healthcare, I've found that you can often get the same service (e.g. same MRI at a facility read by the same doctor) for a much lower price if you offer to pay cash up front. You just have to ask before presenting your insurance card. No insurance receivables for the doctors = cheaper cost. I'll try and post more on my experiences when I have more time.
