Keto Travel Food Advice Needed - 2 Week Trip Limited Access

Hello beautiful people.....

Looking for advice on what Ketoflex 12/3 foods we can pack in our bags for a 14 day trip to a remote area where we won't have access to consistent "normal" foods.....

Our normal foods are pastured eggs + organic vegetables, then more organic vegetables + wild salmon or other pastured protein.

We're limited by weight, but can order anything online - so would be stoked to get some ideas from you all. We should have good access to fresh seafood and fish.

Right now I've got MCT oil capsules, nuts, and dark chocolate on the packing list.

Never done any powdered greens, are they worth it?

Hi Laurel,
For backpacking trips, I always have taken a cabbage, in spite of the weight. Keeps well with no refrigeration, although I have never tried that in the tropics. I found that having something fresh and crunchy that could be eaten day after day was great. Of anything I tried to carry and keep for over a week, that was the most successful. Dehydrating some vegetables is another thing I have done with success and enjoyed along the trip. Onions and mushrooms are super easy. I have also sliced squash, both winter squash and summer squash and re-hydrated in my food.
I have a dehydrator and have also had success with drying in the oven with just the heat from the pilot light. (Mine is an old stove, pre-electronic ignition.)
I have seen both beet and carrot chips in stores lately too. The dried kale treats can be delicious. Either homemade or purchased. A little bulky, but extremely light.
Wherever you go there are often local wild greens growing too.
Two weeks in a remote location sounds wonderful!

When I travel I usually bring with me "Epic", animal protein bars , they make different kinds, and flavors, you can easily find them at whole foods. I also pack a few "bulletproof" bars (contain MCT oil), and nut butter in a small pouches made by Artisana. It looks like this:

Thanks @FloraMaria and @Magda - great recommendations.

I've thrived on cabbage on the last two trips (boating not hiking) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed the island isn't sold out when we get there!

For our upcoming backpacking trip I may look into getting a dehydrator or maybe borrow my sisters. Not sure how I can convince my hiking partners that carrying a cabbage on our hike will be worth it, but looking forward to seeing their faces/reactions when I bring it up! :)

I think I will order some of the Bulletproof bars, bring coconut oil, and nuts and some nut butter, also maybe a jar of tahini.

Thirty-some years ago I convinced a friend,as we were doing final preparations for a 10 day backpack trip , that we needed a cabbage much more than we needed a tent! I had a lot more camping experience so she followed along. Fortunately, as we spent those nights with our sleeping bags laid out on a ground cloth, it did not rain. We were nuzzled by deer. And we did enjoy the cabbage all through the trip.
It makes for a good story: she likes to tell people, “we went backpacking and she got me to leave behind our tent and take a big cabbage instead”.
So, if you can prevail, you can look forward to decades of laughs....

Laural.... just my 2 cents but if this a holiday why not cheat a bit? Live life... a couple weeks is not going to make or break your journey. Having fun with friends and family is not going to change your status significantly IMO (I am not a doctor nor play one on tv). I am on a beach in Florida for 5 weeks... I cheat and have for 2 years. It doesn't change my numbers after I return to real life. Stavia (not speaking for her but she's posted similar comments) has posted similar comments. Point is you have to have memorable moments in life, you can't have them back if you don't live them.

I agree with RU.
I do try to be good when overseas (I travel heaps) but don't try and be perfect. If there's nothing else possible I will eat crisps or *gasp* white bread. My situation tho is complicated by sulfite anaphylaxis so sometimes white bread is actually the safest.
I was in Cuba in 2016 for a month and lived mainly on white bread and cheese. Had a blast. Biomarkers recovered after a month. I wouldn't do it long term tho and wouldn't if I had cognitive issues.
I'd rather travel and do this than not travel.

This trip I discovered Quest bars. And I do pack Kind bars too, even though they have a bit of sugar. And little cans of salmon and tuna. And grass fed beef biltong (a kind of jerky).

MCT powder is lightweight, tasty (faint coconut flavor) and won't puncture like the capsules or spill like the liquid. I like Quest brand.

Canned fish: sardines, salmon, herring, tuna, etc. But you said you would have access to fresh fish, so that's better.

Duke's dried sausages are similar to jerky in flavor and very low in carbs. I stay away from typical jerky but these are good -- in both flavor and carb content.

Maybe take some salt (I like Redmond's for the minerals) to keep away keto flu.

Just two days ago I ran across powdered coconut milk. The brand I got was Organic Traditions. Delicious.
