Thanks Orangeblossom - This is great! I think there's lots of discussion to be had. I personally get frustrated at not being able to source products/brands that many of the US contributors talk about so sharing suppliers will be good, as will discussing UK practitioners, websites and everything really!

Hi Gemma,

Yes I know what you mean, sometimes you can get things via Amazon but then get a customs change, grr. However I have found some UK places to get things from. None of the following have customs charges:

I get Longvida Curcumin from Amazon UK. It is possible to get the folate etc as well. and B vitamins, and Magtein magnesium. With fish oils I got one from Nordic oils I also used them for Vitamin D..

I didn't get on very well with the methyl folate in the B Vits so take this instead. However methylated folate is recommended by the Bredesen book.

I found both Nordic oils and Igennus (vitamins) seem good, Igennus have nutritionalists who can answer questions about the supplements also. I just use some of the above but might not be the same for everyone (doses etc) so may want to check specifically what you want / need first, but I can recommend them in terms of delivery etc. In particular the fish oil is surprisingly nice and tastes lemony and not fishy at all! It has around the 1mg DHA recommended in the book in a large teaspoon. You keep it in the fridge although there are capsules also.

I didn't get on very well with the methyl folate so take this instead. However methyl folate is recommended by the Bredesen book.

Some of these are quite expensive and I can't afford to take them all the time, I try and do the basics as a priority (low carb diet and intermittent fasting, exercise B and D vitamins- which also are the cheapest) I have found the Curcumin to make a difference to my mental health though so going to try and keep up with that if I can. The Magtein was also good but I can't afford that at the mo, so have put on hold for a bit. Found it seemed to help with sleep.

With the End of Alzheimer's book, my library in Bath had that, or you can order it from Amazon, for about ten pounds.

I haven't found my GP was able to help me with much testing when I told them about the APOE4. They did some general tests though, cholesterol, HB1AC for me and had just have the 40 yr old NHS health check which covered some of that anyway. They just told me lifestyle changes are what to try, but not much else.

There seems to be a place which does a test for homocysteine level, (GP said was not available on the NHS)

http://www.foodforthebrain.org I haven't tried it yet though. On a bit of a budget here so might be something for the future for me.

The other things I have been thinking of is HRT and might be possible to get that via NHS. Patches seem to be best. Again in the future for me.

As you can see I'm not an expert here and just learning, only joined a few months ago. I'm a mum and former teacher, age 41 with two young boys to look after so my time is a bit limited. There are lots of lovely helpful people on this site and it is a positive place to be.

Gosh! That is an exhaustive reply Orangeblossom - thank you! I'm 45 and a full-time teacher with two kids, 13 and 11, so I completely understand what you mean about time! Love Bath and have spent many happy times there - I'm from Devon originally so South West is my true home too!

I'm actually in a lesson right now but the students are revising for an exam so I don't have much time to write. I try not to let my 4/4 rule my life but do much the same as you do. I have the problem of a low body weight and low BMI, so although I try to adhere to a 14-16 hour fast, I also need to eat A LOT of the foods I'm allowed (I combine Bredesen and Gundry) when I can eat - hard at school! So I'm forever struggling to keep my weight stable. My Mum died two weeks ago (from AD at 70 :(( ) so weight has plummeted again after a mad dash back to the UK as I tried to organise everything.

I buy most of my supplements from Cytoplan - it's all the American organic food brands etc that I have a harder time finding.

It's great to have this thread. Thanks for starting it - Back to my students now!

Thanks Gemma, yes the SW is a lovely area, lots of sun / vitamin D as well (well, sometimes :( ) I have the opposite problem well, I have a BMI of 27 anyway, so slightly high, think as quite a few foods are higher in fats even if you fast for some of the day you can make it up with a bigger meal when you do eat. i also snack on hard boiled eggs and nuts which are high calorie, too.

Just listing a few food ideas from UK supermarkets I found recently.

I like this avocado oil with hint of lemon - good for cooking veggies as has a high smoke point and high in Vitamin E. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/ ... 034-133035

Fage greek yoghurt- high and protein and delicious, has a zero version too if required. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/shop/sear ... k%20yogurt

Some don't eat grains, I do and find small amounts OK. This is a lowish carb whole grain bread which is very filling and also contains lots of seeds and fat and no wheat. https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/ ... 656-558657 Might be a good swap from normal bread, anyway.

Oh, forgot to mention Cronometer, this is something I saw on here and we in UK can use that too, for free. Yes it seems we can't get the same kind of testing over here that is possible in the USA. Maybe that will happen with time. So in the meantime have to do our best with what we have I guess.

Might be worth keeping an eye on....interested to know if anyone on here has heard of these and can verify /recommend them... it seems the latter working with Bredesen on trials in UK as well and there are contact details etc. if anyone is interested.. I noticed the comments in the blog about trials are from 2016. thought this might be of interest also:

I really like Cytoplan website and blog. I use it a lot and buy my supplements on it too - They often have 3 for 2 - actually they nearly always have 3 for 2 so don't ever pay full price! They can also put you in touch with practitioners in your area who has been trained in the Bredesen protocol through them. They're good!

This is interesting. I was going to ask about Homocysteine testing on the NHS. The site you linked is really good - I tried the cognitive testing for fun but am strictly speaking not old enough to take it as it is designed for those 50-70yrs.

However, the home test kit for Homocysteine is provided by York Labs and is £149.00. Yikes! A bit pricey for me too but I would like to try it as I am homozygous for MTHFR C677T and MTRR A66G so presumably have a high level due to that. I am already taking the methyl-B vits which should help bring it down. Maybe I should wait a few months for them to kick in and also lose some weight before I get tested?

Thanks for the info though. 8-)
