Mystery Meat

Post by ru442 »

@Tincup and @TheresaB

What is Dr. Gundry's opinion on Impossible or Beyond imitation meats? The ingredient list is a bit scary so me thinks the answer is "NO".

You think correctly.

Beyond imitation meats contains pea protein and canola oil, both on his no list, so nyet.

The impossible burger is made from soy so that's a no too.

Not to mention both are highly processed which Dr Gundry discourages.

For a little more insight, visit this April 2019 article. It wasn't written by Dr Gundry, but rather Dr Mercola, Impossible Whopper — Burger King Adopts Fake Meat. Nevertheless, he wrote:
The Impossible Burger is a highly processed fake food, not the solution to a sustainable food system

I initially thought this thread was announcing a mystery location meet up, not about the newly popular fake highly processed meat! :lol:

When I heard Burger King is going to offer it in their burgers as their "meatless" version, I knew it was a red flag.

from Bloomberg Top News: No Beyond Burrito
Chipotle CEO Says Faux Meat is Too Processed
CEO Brian Nichol said the company's products are too processed for the burrito chain, which touts its simple food and a menu that uses only 51 ingredients.

Did curiosity kill the cat? Hopefully not in my case―I actually tried the Impossible Burger at Burger King, and it wasn't bad; better than the veggie burger I tried at Red Robin a couple years ago... For better or for worse, they are getting better at making better-tasting "meatless meat." (note: I did not eat the buns that came with the burger, lol)
