The fourth intervention to reverse mild Alzheimer's in the Bredesen Protocol is:
- Goal: Optimize sleep
- Approach: 8 hr sleep per night; melatonin 0.5mg po qhs; Trp 500mg po 3x/wk if awakening. Exclude sleep apnea.
- Improving and Retaining Memory Function Feb 15, 2015
Get at least 7 hours of sleep each night (preferably 8). Taking melatonin before bed can be helpful (0.5 to 1mg; this can be purchased over the counter). If you awaken and can't go back to sleep in the middle of the night, you can add tryptophan (500mg) or 5-hydroxytryptophan (100mg) at bedtime.
The next intervention in the Bredesen Protocol is Exercise.
