Re: Dr Bredesen's DHEA Target High???
Just adding to the conversation on this somewhat old thread since I too am trying to figure out what level is appropriate. A couple years ago my DHEA-Sulfate was 76 without supplementation (lab range 15-200). I added 1/4 of a 5mg micronized tablet per day to nudge it a little higher and it went to 1...

Re: oxalates
I don't believe kale is a high-oxalate food, but kale (and other cruciferous veggies) can contain thallium (a heavy metal). I have come to believe that nutritional variety is the best strategy to prevent over doing any particular compounds. That said, I wonder if I consume too many oxalates since I ...

Re: Modified citrus pectin can minimize heavy metal toxicity
I've been taking it (Pectasol-C) for about three months, along with some other detox supplements and prescription DMSA -- all recommended by my functional medicine doctor, after flunking my heavy metals tests. Modified citrus pectin is not cheap, but it seems to be safe and supposedly has some advan...

Re: cognitive disconnect - do you "feel" you are reducing risk?
I think it's a good question. The short answer . . . I absolutely feel that I am reducing my risk. Long answer . . . I am painfully aware that I have many risk factors: ApoE 4/4, other AD genetics, family history, homozygous MTHFR 1298c, homozygous H63D (absorb iron a bit too readily), and current h...

Re: Broken Brain 2
Is anybody following this series narrated by Dr. Mark Hyman? I watched the whole thing! Including Bredesen’s shoutout to you. :) Although there was a bit too much jumping around for my taste (Sometimes I just want to hear the whole interview!), the docuseries definitely touched on a lot of importan...

Re: E4s Have Earlier Menopause Onset?
I'm curious as to WHY ApoE4 might cause earlier menopause. I'm 4/4 and had surgical menopause at 50, so all I know is I wasn't early, in spite of having been told to expect early menopause due to only having had one ovary and having had surgery on the other. What I do know is that my brain could not...

Re: New e4/e4
I celebrate when I hit 7 hours (especially consecutive) Yes, it was my goal too: get two 7 hr sleeps in a row. I lowered the threshold by 30 min after I read a study by FitBit, https://blog.fitbit.com/sleep-study/ , the takeaway is that for women age > 55 average sleep time is around 6.5 hours. The...

Re: New e4/e4
Thank you, Anna! Not an easy journey so far. You're welcome :) No, it is not an easy journey. But most days, I'm glad to know my status. It took me a while to get to that point. It also took time to be able to research AD prevention without triggering major anxiety or sense of doom. Thanks for the ...

Re: New to Site and Seeking Guidance
Hi NatureLover. I recently learned about my e4/e4 status. I am still on the rollercoaster of some days believing my vision for my future is now vastly different, versus other days where I think I can potentially stave off the onset of Alzheimer's. Yep, that's exactly how I felt two plus years ago wh...

Re: New e4/e4
Welcome to the community Sabaka. I am also 4/4 (I learned my status a couple years ago at age 52). This is quite a journey, isn't it? I am intimately familiar with the misery of chronic sleep deprivation resulting from relentless insomnia. I am not sure if you are aware that the anticholinergic effe...
