Re: Blue Cross Plans Say Alzheimer’s Has Tripled Among Adults Ages 30 To 64

Hi. Thanks for sharing. The disconnect between the scale of the problem and the resistance to doing much of anything to reduce risk at the level of populations is disappointing. In our area we have horrible air pollution, mostly PM2, one of the older populations of any state, and high and increasing...

Re: 2019 review on APOE4 and AD

I read this. Thanks for sharing! It's a good overview of the current apoe4 research. It might be worth linking somewhere for new folks. I wish they were further along on these approaches to addressing apoe4 directly.

Re: Plant flavonols significantly reduce Alzheimer’s risk

I love plant polyphenols and I'm not surprised that they reduce risk. They found reduced risk associated with kaempferol, myricetin, and isorhamnetin. They state they found not risk reduction associated with quercetin but their data kind of suggests that a larger study might detect that as well. I'm...

Re: NIH grants Gladstone Institute $4.8M to study ApoE4

Years back I had high hopes for their apoe4 "structure correcters" That research hasn't seemed to move along as quickly as hoped. But I'm glad they're still at it!

A similar experience here, though I am a bit older at 48. You've found the right place. Welcome to the group!

Air pollution and apoe4 - bad to worse

92% of people live in places where particulate matter pollution exceeds the World Health Organization’s guideline for healthy air. The gene variant, which ~25% of people possess, ApoE4 increases the risk that exposure to air pollution leads to #Alzheimers. https://nyti.ms/2TjBgpL Why Is Air Pollutio...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

Good point! Inflammation is important, and we can measure that. I actually did that, and saw inflammation go down at the time I made some changes. I hadn't thought of that in a while.

Re: Just got results, I carry 2 E4 genes, I have questions!

Hi. I'm not an expert or medical doctor. I just like reading about this. For what it is worth I'm not aware of any studies showing strong, direct links between apoe4 and these particular symptoms. But I can think of lots of indirect ways in which they could be related. So a search of the literature ...

Re: Zero carb diet will help prevent Alzheimer’s

Hi dfmcapecod, I remember that thread from the summer! I guess we're all waiting on that diagnostic test to come along. :? There was another flurry of news about blood and spinal fluid tests for AB and tau recently. If those come to fruition I suppose we could all evaluate how our lifestyle interven...

Re: statins and antibiotics together

NF52 is spot on, once again, in my opinion. :D (oh, and Slacker too!) The debate about statins is a long one. The best course of action almost certainly depends on our own situations. I've been on low dose statins, of various sorts, for 3-4 years now. The research convinced me that overall the benef...
