Re: Ketogenic Diets for AD Prevention: a "Large [and Unwise] Bet"
As someone who literally can’t think when out of ketosis (I need a blood ketone level of slightly over 1 to function), I don’t see any other option at this point. If I’m not consistently in ketosis I can’t work, etc. This is extremely scary (like having your brain ripped away, almost like a switch h...

Re: HDL plays a pivotal role in preserving cognition
Paul, my hdl went from 29 a little over a year ago to 50. I’m pretty sure the change was due to the addition of olive oil to my diet, somewhere between 2-4 tbs a day. Initially I thought the extra saturated fat was increasing my LDL-P but that seems not to be the case.

Re: Perturbed Fatty Acid Metabolism in E4 carriers
I would be interested. I have mast cell activation disorder and my histamine level is chronically high. Despite evidence of systemic inflammation (gastro), my crp is low. Odd.

George, how much niacin were you taking when you saw the increase in ketones? I’m asking because I’m trying to keep my ketone level more stable. I’ve been getting increasingly large fluctuations and I just recently started taking niacin. Thanks, Liz

Re: Rep SO disappointed Cholesterol Numbers NO BETTER after 2.5 months of perfect diet
Rshircliff, my sympathies on your blood sugar woes (can be so frustrating) and on the major stressors you’ve experienced recently. This may not be relevant, but I wanted to mention it just in case. A number of years ago I had a bout of delayed gastric emptying that gave me a similar glucose pattern ...

Re: apod NMR Lipoprofile Results
So it looks like PIR results in higher fasting, as well as postprandial, glucose levels (from the links Merouleau provided). With ketone levels under 1.0, I tend to see this, but when my ketone level is around 3.0 or higher, my fasting blood glucose is always low. I suspect that my situation is atyp...

Re: apod NMR Lipoprofile Results
I believe I read that one should eat a fair amount of carbohydrate in the days before a glucose tolerance test, but it never really registered, probably because I didn’t understand the underlying rationale. Thanks for that information. I wonder to what extent my very low carb diet has impacted my te...

Re: Name Your Top 5 Most Impactful Supplements
That’s a good question. I know it’s illegal to use sulfites on salad bars in the US, but I’m not sure about fresh fish. I would say that it is not, given my experiences. I recently asked whether sulfites were used on fish in two places – one was a fish store in St. Louis, MO (the answer was, yes, al...

Re: apod NMR Lipoprofile Results
George, thanks for the input. I do think that slow triglyceride clearance is an issue for me. When I regularly supplemented with MCT oil for a period, my triglyceride level increased notably on the NMR panel. My glucose/insulin situation is just strange. My fasting insulin is really low, often non-d...

Re: Rep SO disappointed Cholesterol Numbers NO BETTER after 2.5 months of perfect diet
Rep, I don’t know if this is relevant in your case, but I was able to lower my LDL-P substantially (just got results back and it’s down from around 1300 to 1040, although other markers are still not good) by limiting swings in blood sugar. Prior to that I was keeping my blood glucose under 120, but ...
