Re: Using RAPA for AD prevention

I also believe suppressing mTor is an important step for healthy aging. I am a 70 yo retired physician with one copy of ApoE4. I practice daily time restricted eating, usually 18:6. I have recently began doing longer fasts to really kick start autophagy. (my record is 84 hours). I recommend The Swit...

Re: Unfortunate side effect from melatonin.

It is rewarding for me to see that so many people have benefited from this post. Relentless watery diarrhea is no fun and who would have guesses it was caused by melatonin.

Re: Unfortunate side effect from melatonin.

Shiro, I posted my experience with persistent watery diarrhea related to melatonin, hoping it would be read by others with the same issue. I am happy to read that your wife discovered the post and you are now cured. Robert Johnson MD, mountaineermd.

Re: Unfortunate side effect from melatonin.

I had been taken 1 or 2 mg of melatonin at bed time for about 5 or 6 weeks. The diarrhea was worse in the morning, The web site I discovered was HealingWell.com, search melatonin and diarrhea. I must admit, melatonin was the last thing I would have thought would cause diarrhea. And since it took abo...

Unfortunate side effect from melatonin.

I recently developed persistent watery diarrhea(5-10x per day). I had been eating grapefruit which I stopped , and then cut out all my suppliments except 1mg of melatonin. The diarrhea persisted without relief, so I assumed I must have giardiasis. After a negative culture, I stumbled upon a web site...

Re: New to the family!

Welcome to the family. Before I discovered that I had the APOE4 gene, I had already read Bredesen's book. What I had always believed to be a hopeless diagnosis, is in reality anything but. I consider this knowledge a blessing in that it will give me the incentive to live a healthy life style (Bredes...

Re: new member introduction.

NF52, Thank you for your reply. As you know improving sleep is a slow work in progress. I did reduce my melatonin dose from 5mg to ! mg, last night and it seemed to help. So it's back to the rowing machine this morning, continue the intermittent fasting, and keep stimulating my mind with the many wo...

Re: new member introduction.

CarrieS, Thank you for the sleep information. I have been doing intermittent fasting (18 hours ever day) with two 40 hour fasts as well. Now that I am fat adapted, I am amazed how easy it is, ie (no hunger). Unfortunately, it hasn't made me able to sleep any better. I haven't been tired during the d...

Re: new member introduction.

Actually the mountaineer came from where I went to college, the West Virginia mountaineers. But I do enjoy hiking, Camels Hump in Vermont, and Table Rock in South Carolina. My present long term goal is to row the equator on my C2 rowing machine (40,075,000 meters). I am a little over half way. My pa...
