I now see this paper has been discussed in other threads. Here's one: https://www.apoe4.info/forums/viewtopic ... oe4#p59252

Can statins reduce risk of AD for APOE4/4?

This article is from 2017, some of you may have seen it before. The graphs that show the 10 year follow up are dramatic.

Re: Bad experience with propofol

Does this suggest I shouldn't use this drug again? Might I have been overmedicated? Or is this saying something about the state of my brain? Of course, I can't help but wonder if my ApoE4 status is partly responsible for what happened. As a pediatric intensivist I sedate children and adolescents al...

Re: Blood test for beta amyloid 42/40 ratio

I should add that I'm not sure I would want to know the result. What if the number just keeps going up? I don't really want to watch a quantification of my brain slipping away. But at the same time, what if it could be helpful?

Blood test for beta amyloid 42/40 ratio

I was recently looking on the Quest website and saw that this test is available. They say the test is useful to determine if a case of cognitive decline is likely due to Alzheimer's. Has anyone done this test to see the result, even without cognitive decline? Can it be used to track whether one's pr...

Re: Dutch Woman With Dementia Euthanized Against Her Will. The Doctor Was Just Cleared Of Wrongdoing.

I checked, no assisted suicide in Denmark.

Here's the list: Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Columbia and Canada. In the US, it is legal in 8 states plus DC. Here's more info if anyone is interested:

Re: Dutch Woman With Dementia Euthanized Against Her Will. The Doctor Was Just Cleared Of Wrongdoing.

The Danish are in Denmark, not Holland/Netherlands where the Dutch live. Denmark is considered one of the happiest countries in the world. I don't think they are killing people with dementia and mental illness. I have heard that the Dutch practice active euthanasia (as opposed to passive euthanasia,...

Re: General Anesthesia

Hi, there's a long discussion about anesthesia under the topic "General Anesthesia and APOE4." If you enter that topic in the search field it will link to the discussion. No, you should not have to choose between breast cancer and AD. One thought I have is asking about a thoracic epidural ...

Re: "Lifetime risk for APOE4/4 carriers is 30% because they'll likely die from heart disease" - is this research outdate

I agree with JulieG, especially because the numbers are so variable when you look up articles about the risk of AD for 4/4, as I have been doing recently. I think some of the higher risk numbers come from studies of families with late onset Alzheimer's, in those families the AD risk is > 90% if they...

Re: Review article on AD risk factors: so many studies, so many conflicting or inconclusive results

Thanks for your reply NF52. As a fellow 4/4, it just bothers me that we do not know what we are doing and whether it will help. We have daunting odds as 4/4s, 11-15X the normal risk (for 3/3). So even if there is a way to reduce the odds/risk as described by some studies, by 30% or 60% (for the gene...
