Re: Too Skinny

What about Zinc, Selenium, & Iodine ? I struggle with obtaining optimal nutrition and I eat at least 5 times a day! Magnesium from greens, I need several pounds of greens per week to meet my needs. Supplementing won't suffice. A healthy gut needs a steady supply of fiber, the more the merry. The...

Re: new e4/e4 - need advice on what tests

Welcome aboard! I have heard of 4/4's who live long healthy lives, you can do it too! If you need to make a lot of changes, I wouldn't worry about testing too much just yet. Take your time, dial in your diet, start exercising. test down the road to see if you need more changes. Just my two cents... ...

Re: Trying to do my best to live long and prosper!

Maceo, Welcome to the forum. Its nice to have another plant based 4' in the group. You're right! Our 4' doesn't have to bring on disease, finding out about my APOE4 was the catalyst that afforded me the will power it took to redesign my lifestyle. About exercise, I hate it too. I use an elliptical t...

Re: Carbs and exercise timing

After my last round of labs and discussion with my dietitian, he adjusted my morning routine slightly. The changes we made speak directly to the jist of this thread. I was smelling ammonia after aerobic exercise which I'm told was due to carbohydrate deficiency. I was burning too much protein, not c...

Re: Supplements making things worse

Methylated vitamins definitely can cause anxiety. You really should find someone qualified to help you, preferably an RD. Most supplements are untested, unproven garbage and can be harmful. Be careful.

Re: MUST READ for 3/4 carriers!

Since we 4's have lower levels of circulating APOE (probably due to proteolytic cleavage), It seems to me that lowering the need for higher levels of APOE would be a reasonable approach. APOE is used in the metabolism fat and cholesterol. If you have less fat and cholesterol in your system, the need...

Re: Cholesterol Levels and NMR Test Preparation

Blaise, I'm APOE 3/4 and FWIW, most of my energy comes from beans, peas, rice, lentils and potatoes. My TC is 129, A1c in the 5's, and my CIMT normalized after adding back carbs. LCHF pushed my TC over 250 and my CIMT progression was 3x normal. This is n=1 data and may not apply to you but your labs...

Re: Cholesterol Levels and NMR Test Preparation

Blaise, now that you've tried three diets, each with different results. What's your take on what you've learned so far?

Re: NMR LipoProfile Test Result Questions

Your total cholesterol is high enough to suggest you should make changes, my guess is its most likely your diet. A CAC, CIMT, or a LP-PLA2 assay would help in assessing your current status of atheroma (indicative of urgency). You are young with plenty of time to figure it out, don't worry, but pleas...
