Re: Ketogenic Diet: Transitioning, Experiences, Reasons, Cautions ...
A friend of mine was telling me that B2 supplements at night (200 mg) has helped her sleep deeply after removing grains from her diet (she has Hashimoto's). Thanks CarrieS! B2 supplements might be a good idea for me in any case (or so I've heard) based on my MTHFR polymorphisms (I have rs1801133 an...

Re: Ketogenic Diet: Transitioning, Experiences, Reasons, Cautions ...
My heart rate has gone up significantly since I started playing around with a ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. One consequence is that the beating of my heart sometimes keeps me awake at night. It's been worrying me for the past few months, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I've tried su...

What an appropriate recipe for someone named "Rainbow": colorful, healthy and sounds delicious! Thanks for sharing with a picture; always helps those of us who can't picture any recipe. ;) Thanks for the kind words, your message made my day a bit brighter! :D I am salivating reading about...

I like making "buns" from ground flaxseed, chia, desiccated coconut and one extra-large egg. I just mix everything together with some water and microwave in a mug! They go really well with nut butters, but today I'm having them with mashed-up avo. The other things in the photo are kale and...

Re: Morning mineral cocktail?
Tim Ferriss likes pu'erh tea with butter, coconut oil, turmeric and ginger (see here for recipe). Kind of like bulletproof tea. He also mentions yerba maté. But perhaps it's worth being mindful of heavy metals in tea (see this thread ). My gut really really hates the butter-and-MCT-oil combo (or may...

Re: EPA and DHA Questions
What many of us think is more important than LDL-C is whether the LDL is oxidized. A simple measure of that is triglycerides:HDL. You can also directly measure OX-LDL and sdLDL and I think Lp(a) for other angles into this. All the omegas are easily oxidized so we try to eat a high antioxidant diet....

This may depend on what your mercury goals are (within the lab range vs. no mercury). I was eating only low mercury fish and seafood for years and then my serum mercury tested mid-range at 7.2 ug/L (0-14.9 ug/L). It would be seen as okay in the conventional world, and maybe that is. But I've wonder...

Re: EPA and DHA Questions
Thanks so much Stavia and slacker! :) I'd also like to eat more fish, especially since I've reduced red meat to almost zilch. I'm a bit worried about heavy metals in fish though, especially because my mum (who's pescatarian and eats a lot of fish) got tested and has high mercury, lead and nickel. I'...
